19 The Solution: EDI Advantage with SAP PI and Seeburger Advantage Firewall VAN Mail box SAP ECC 6.0 IS Solution IDoc EDI Internet Cloud SAP PI Trading Partner The EDI adapter is used to receive messages from the customer s EDI server or VAN mailbox. The EDI adapter converts the message from EDI format to XML format. It is also responsible for acknowledgements. The XML message is then mapped to the SAP standard IDoc. The IDoc then creates/updates the relevant SAP document (Sales Order). The same process is followed when a EDI message is to be transmitted to the Business partner. In this case, SAP IDoc is converted to EDI message and transmitted by the EDI adapter.
