Planned availability date May 06, 2011 Description BLADEHarmony Manager is an application for remote monitoring and management of Ethernet switches from IBM. It provides point-and-click administration to simplify and centralize the management of your BladeCenter or blade server and top-of-rack Ethernet switches. BLADEHarmony Manager offers the following features and enhancements: BLADEHarmony Manager is designed for easy group configuration management by allowing IT administrators to upgrade multiple switches simultaneously from a central location, or via a defined schedule. It also enables IT administrators to simultaneously configure, control (reboot, for example), update, and back up configurations to or from multiple switches. In addition, this management software gives IT administrators the ability to discover image versions, serial numbers, and other attributes of installed switches. It offers easy and efficient device management through its detailed web-based switch Configuration Console. This feature allows IT admins to perform multiple management actions such as CLI execution, applying and saving configurations, resetting switch, displaying diff on configuration or flash image, and generating a configuration dump. It also has Launch Telnet and a web session that can perform detailed configuration tasks. Finally, its "manager-of-managers" mode expands the number of devices supported into the thousands. With its wizard-based configuration and distribution of virtual machine network policies, BLADEHarmony Manager can support VM migration across the data center. It also allows for port group policy configuration and distribution to multiple VMware ESX servers. It provides authorization with three levels of hierarchy for administrative roles, as well as local, TACACS+, and RADIUS authentications. It can support standard notification (trap and syslog) and SNMP (SNMPv1, SNMPv2c, and SNMPv3) based configuration and management. BLADEHarmony Manager provides fault management through features like "Summary Page" which gives an at-a-glance summary of all discovered devices, "Health Status" which provides a snapshot of device health, and "Dial Home" which sends notifications based on events detected in the network. In addition, it can also centrally receive and display syslog messages and SNMP traps from switches, provide a poll of the health status of switches, and report panic state and reason for last reboot. It enables IT administrators to manage and monitor performance by collecting, displaying, and graphing real-time performance statistics and reporting switch attributes and statistics. 3 BLADEHarmony Manager can automatically discover switches by specifying IP ranges or subnets or by importing discovery address via file. In addition, it can organize switches in user-defined groupings for ease of management. Product positioning BLADEHarmony Manager is an application for remote monitoring and management of Ethernet switches from IBM. It is designed to improve service delivery while reducing management costs. BLADEHarmony Manager provides detailed web-based configuration of switches, including the ability to perform switch management from a command-line interface (CLI). Multiple switches can be upgraded or configured simultaneously to simplify management of multiple Ethernet devices. Fault management and real-time performance statistics are also available. BLADEHarmony Manager can be integrated with IBM Systems Director. IBM Systems Director Network Control V1.2, available separately, provides network management integrated into the server and storage management capabilities of IBM Systems Director, which is designed to help reduce the cost of managing physical and virtualized environments by using a single integrated management product. IBM Systems Director Network Control performs a limited set of configuration tasks for network devices, including management of network adapters and switches enhanced with storage fabric management for IBM network switches, both Ethernet and FCoCEE, in a unified server, storage, and network environment. For example, IBM Systems Director Network Control can configure VLANs when a virtual machine is provisioned. IBM Systems Director gives clients the ability to leverage common tools across a single switch or many switches, which can improve productivity and reduce costs. IBM Tivoli Network Manager and IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus TM, available separately, provide additional functions beyond those provided in BLADEHarmony Manager or IBM Systems Director. Enhanced capabilities in event management, root cause analysis, and device discovery are available. For multivendor networks, the IBM Tivoli Network Manager solution may be a more appropriate offering.
