Horizonta Directiona Driing method (HDD) or Trenchess Technoogy (TT) stands for sub-surface construction works and is appied when fewer trenches or non-continuous trenches are required. The first stage consists of directionay driing a sma diameter piot hoe aong a designed directiona path. The second stage invoves enarging this piot hoe to a diameter suitabe for instaation of the pipeine. The third stage consists of puing the pipeine back into the enarged hoe. Piot hoe directiona contro is achieved by using a nonrotating dri string with an asymmetrica eading edge. The asymmetry of the eading edge creates a steering bias whie the non-rotating aspect of the dri string aows the steering bias to be hed in a specific position whie driing. If a change in direction is required, the dri string is roed so that the direction of bias is the same as the desired change in direction. Straight progress may be achieved by driing with a series of offsetting too face positions.
