2 Promat MASTERBOARD Introduction Promat MASTERBOARD is a versatie Cass 0 buiding board suitabe for use in a wide range of both interna and semi-exposed appications. It is the ony board to have BBA certification and over 30 years of proven and tested fire protection performance. Promat MASTERBOARD is fixed to a treated meta support structure using corrosion resistant screws. Promat MASTERBOARD is rebated on four sides, aowing the joints to be fied with Promat MOISTURE RESISTANT JOINT FILLER and then coated with a speciaist moisture resistant coating incorporating a joint reinforcement mesh. This coating system not ony provides the fina decorative finish but aso forms a vapour barrier to hep contro condensation and provides a hygienic biocida surface which prevents the growth of bacteria and moud. 3 Promat MASTERBOARD Performance Promat MASTERBOARD provides up to 30 minutes fire protection, is resistant to the effects of moisture, wi not physicay deteriorate when used in damp or humid conditions and can withstand high temperatures and frequent temperature changes. FIRE PERFORMANCE Up to 30 minutes fire resistance Limited combustibiity Cass 0 Buidings Reguations cassification MOISTURE RESISTANCE Promat MASTERBOARD retains its exceent dimensiona stabiity even in damp and humid conditions and can be instaed at an eary stage in the construction programme, before the buiding is weather tight. It can aso be used for semi-exposed appications and can be eft undecorated. IMPACT RESISTANCE Promat MASTERBOARD has good impact resistance making it suitabe for most industria appications. BIOLOGICAL AND CHEMICAL RESISTANCE Promat MASTERBOARD is resistant to moud growth, most chemicas and attack by rodents and insects. EASY TO WORK, FIX AND DECORATE Promat MASTERBOARD is easy to cut, dri, shape and can be worked in the same way as timber products with no specia toos required. ENVIRONMENTAL Water used in manufacturing is re-circuated in a cosed system and most waste materia can be re-used. HEALTH AND SAFETY Promat MASTERBOARD is not cassified as a dangerous substance and can be paced in an on-site skip with other genera buiding waste. 4 Promat MASTERBOARD Working, Fixing, Decorating CUTTING Promat MASTERBOARD can be worked with conventiona woodworking equipment athough the use of hand saws with hardened teeth is recommended. Promat MASTERBOARD greater than 6mm thickness may be more easiy cut using a power circuar saw in conjunction with tungsten carbide tipped bades, or a jigsaw. For rough cutting, 6mm sheets can be deepy scribed and broken over a straight edge ( score and snap ). DRILLING Use norma ow or high speed dris. Pace scrap board under driing ocation for cean hoe. SMOOTHING AND SANDING Smooth cut edges with a surform, pane, rasp or fie. Sand with conventiona papers. Garnet paper is best for fine sanding. Promat materias provide a surface ready to receive most forms of decoration. Where finishes such as wapaper are to be used, appication can be made easier by first seaing the board with a proprietary seaer or paint. PLASTERING Promat fire protection boards have a high suction and therefore it is generay difficut to appy gypsum paster. If pastering is essentia pease consut the Promat Technica Services Department. It is recommended that a sma test area is pastered initiay to ensure that the boards have been adequatey seaed. It is advisabe that a sef-adhesive gass or hessian scrim is appied over joints and interna anges. Paper jointing tape is not recommended. If a skim coat is desired: Appy a seaing coat of diuted universa primer/pva (1 part PVA and 5 parts water). Seaing coat shoud be aowed to dry thoroughy (approximatey 24 hours). Appy bonding coat (3 parts PVA and 1 part water). Appy paster skim (maximum 5mm thick) whie the bonding coat is wet and tacky. The paster manufacturers recommendations for skimming onto high suction surfaces shoud be foowed at a times. TILING Promat MASTERBOARD can be tied with ceramic, marbe, granite and natura stone ties (maximum tie weight 30kg/m 2 ). The minimum board thickness to be used shoud be 9mm. The boards shoud be seaed on both faces with PVA or watered down tie adhesive and aowed to dry. Vertica timber supports (minimum 50mm x 50mm) or stee studs shoud be instaed at maximum 400mm centres and a board joints must be supported. Fix the boards, preferaby with back (textured) face outwards, to the supports at 200mm centres. The screws shoud be countersunk and corrosion resistant. The ties shoud then be fixed using standard tie adhesive. 4

5 Promat MASTERBOARD Working, Fixing, Decorating DECORATIVE COATINGS Decorative coatings appied to the surface of Promat board products shoud compy with the requirements of Approved Document B (Appendix A) of the Buiding Reguations, in terms of contribution to the fire oading and the rate of surface spread of fame. Surfaces shoud be dry, free of oi, oose surface ayers and dust. If required, screw hoes and board joints may be fied with Promat READY-MIXED JOINT FILLER and sanded accordingy. PAINTING Typicay water-based paints such as emusions, may be used with a watered down first coat to sea the surface. Aternativey, other paint types may require a proprietary seaer, primer or undercoat, depending upon the paint system. Consut with the paint manufacturers for their recommendations for use on cacium siicate boards. PAPERING When papering Promat MASTERBOARD, size the surface to sea against suction and improve sip, then hang papers or vinys in the norma way. HANDLING AND STORING Promat MASTERBOARD Carry boards on edge, do not drop on corners. Store fuy protected from weather on a fat base, cear of ground. Fuy support boards across width at not more than 1m centres. HEALTH AND SAFETY A safety data sheet is avaiabe from the Promat Technica Services Department and, as with any other materias, shoud be read before working with the board. The board is not cassified as a dangerous substance and so no specia provisions are required regarding the carriage and disposa of the product to andfi. They can be paced in an on-site skip with other genera buiding waste which shoud be disposed of by a registered contractor. Promat MASTERBOARD is not oad-bearing. 5

6 Promat MASTERBOARD Case Studies Promat MASTERBOARD CREATES A WAVE AT WHITE S HOTEL The we-known and popuar White s Hote, ocated in the centre of Wexford town, has been transformed recenty with a massive refurbishment and extension programme. Part of the extension was the eisure and fitness faciity, which incudes a fantastic eisure swimming poo. The poo ha and some surrounding areas such as the changing and shower rooms, feature the Promat Swimming Poo Ceiing and Wa Lining System. This system is based on the tried and tested combination of components from three manufacturers together providing a ining system suitabe for use in the harsh and corrosive environment of a swimming poo ha. The system features a treated meta support system from Richter, the timeess moisture resistant cacium siicate board Promat MASTERBOARD, from fire protection eaders Promat, and the seamess hygienic coating finishing system from Liquid Pastics Limited. The entire system is promoted and backed by Promat, with fu technica support and backing from Richter and LPL. Promat at VICTORIA SQUARE Promat has successfuy suppied over 5000m 2 of 9mm thick Promat MASTERBOARD, to provide the decorative soffits at the andmark Victoria Square Compex in Befast. The Promat MASTERBOARD, moisture resistant soffit system was designed by Architects Buiding Design Partnership in Befast to create both fat and vauted soffits capabe of surviving in the semi exposed atmospheric conditions. The Promat MASTERBOARD, system was rebated on four sides to aow the joints to be taped and fied using Promat MOISTURE RESISTANT JOINT FILLER creating a fat joint free surface suitabe for the appication of a moisture resistant externa grade paint finish. This paint finish is designed to prevent the growth of moud and bacteria on the surface of the board whie aso providing a decorative ight refective coating.
