The importance of energy-efficient gazing Advances in technoogy have made windows a significant contributor to the energy efficiency of new homes. Current restrictions, which were put in pace to preserve the character of the nation s buidings, in some circumstances prevent the improvement of therma efficiency by not permitting upgrading from singe gazing. So, whist these properties ook appeaing, they carry a heavy price in terms of reduced interna comfort eves, high heating costs and carbon footprint. Protection cap The vacuum creation process in Pikington Spacia resuts in an extraction point in one of the panes, ocated 50 mm from the gass edge. This point is covered by a sma permanent cap (12 mm diameter), which must remain on the gass surface and shoud be gazed towards the inside of the buiding. Low-e gass Cear foat Protection cap (12 mm diameter) Vacuum gives exceent therma performance with a gap of ony 0.2 mm Microspacers (20 mm apart) Pikington Spacia How it works Pikington Spacia vacuum gazing consists of an outer pane of ow-emissivity gass and an inner pane of cear foat gass, separated by a micro spacer grid of sma piars each measuring just 0.5 mm diameter, set 20 mm apart, which are roboticay positioned, with inteigent camera checking. This grid ensures that the two gass panes are kept a fixed distance apart. The edges are weded to achieve a hermetic sea. Air is extracted to create a vacuum via the extraction point, rather than being air or gas fied. The resut is an exceent therma performance from a unit that is ony sighty thicker than singe gass.
