2 PROSPECTUS FOR SPONSORS Take part in one of the largest conferences in Ontario, where you will meet municipal representatives, managers of various fields and levels, and decision makers who have a great impact on community development. This year s AFMO (Francophone Association of Municipalities of Ontario) Conference will take place in Hearst, September 21 to 22, 2016, with the delegates arriving on the 20th. By sponsoring an activity or the entire event, you will have the opportunity to be acknowledged and recognized by AFMO, a leader in municipal affairs, its members, and its partners. Please note that the Conference will be conducted in French and simultaneously translated in English. It is a summit for all Francophones, Anglophones, and Francophiles to attend! 2016 EDITION Each year, the AFMO presents a major event within its Annual General Assembly: a provincial conference that brings together more than 175 leaders, partners and protagonists in the economic and community development of Francophone and bilingual collectivities throughout Ontario. Nested in Hearst s enchanting setting, the AFMO will be highlighting its 27th year of operation. The theme of this year's Conference is Local development at the heart of our communities". In order to share expertise in various vital areas such as, most notably, as innovation as it relates to tourism, economic development and networking, this event will underline the importance of rallying our communities, of partnerships between different stakeholders within our communities as well as the interaction between the various municipalities within our greater Franco-Ontarian community, as well as beyond our borders. We must capitalize on our strengths to build a better future! Elected officials, managers and chairs, and staff of Ontario municipalities, public servants representing provincial and federal Ministries, as well as key components within the development of arts and culture, environment, community economy, tourism, and immigration, along with social and private sector entrepreneurs will all be attending to share experiences, lessons learned, strategies, structures, and processes that involve a variety of partners who follow an integrated approach toward sustainable development, while addressing the complex problems with which our communities are confronted. Furthermore, you will be overwhelmed by Hearst s warmth and charming human and physical landscapes. In collaboration with Public and Catholic school boards and the Élargir l espace francophone program, the AFMO will present the eighth edition of its eighth youth program and will welcome the students from the area s French-Language Public schools and French-Language Catholic schools. Students will take part in workshops on leadership within the framework of identity building and will present their talents as hosts during special activities within the Conference.

3 Delegates will be able to share their experiences with these emerging youth, which, in return, will share the challenges it perceives and faces as part of a minority. Simply put, everyone will find a place in this great Francophone space and Franco-Ontarian vitality enhancement project. PARTICIPANTS More than 175 elected officials, managers and chairs, and staff members from Ontario municipalities, public servants from ministries at both provincial and federal levels such as AMO, AMCTO, and OGRA, and protagonists from organizations involved in community economic development and education such as AcVFO, AFO, AOPP, AJEFO, CCO, FAFO, FESFO, and RDÉE Ontario Potentially more than 100 youth delegates rallying for a specific activity Fifteen sponsors Fifteen departments and partners (booths) Ministers from both levels of government and special guests More than fifty youth delegates taking part in the conference, including five to eight who will be acting as contact and host for one of the workshops More than twenty sectarian associative partners, most notably in tourism, agriculture, agrifood, youth, health, high technology, employability, cooperative development, immigration, and finance OBJECTIVES 1. Have the participants learn about successful governance strategies and experiences, while providing a public forum for discussions and expert perspective; 2. Encourage the implementation of communication networks and partnerships between municipalities and organizations involved in economic development, employability, social economy, cultural policies, and immigration; 3. Share the information, encourage the consolidation and the innovation, allow the dialogue with the experts from the Ville de Québec, the province of Quebec, Manitoba and New Brunswick, allowing municipalities and organizations to better understand the scope and the advantages of implementing municipal policies for the economic development of our communities; 4. Raise awareness of elected officials toward the identity of their respective community as Francophone, as part of an undeniable asset for the socio-economic development, most notably, through the heritage, the vitality of each Francophone community, the promotion and the implementation of services provided in French, the feature of artists and cultural events, and the infrastructures.

4 WHO ARE WE? Mission Provide French-speaking elected municipal officers and directors a public forum and relevant services in French, and act as representative and advisor toward ministries and organizations related to municipal affairs in Ontario. Objectives Act as representative for members in matters of common interest; Foster professional development and ongoing training of its members; Serve as a forum for its members to share information and perspective; Link with other municipal stakeholders in Ontario and throughout Canada; Promote and encourage the use of French in municipal affairs; Promote the immigration of Francophones to Ontario and support the integration of racial and ethno-cultural minorities within various Francophone communities in Ontario. Priorities Claim the upholding and the improvement of municipal services provided in French, in Ontario, by improving rules and legislative measures related to services and programs offered to residents and taxpayers within the province s bilingual regions as designated by the French Language Services Act; Offer training and professional development programs to municipal elected officials, their executives and employees, as well as to the AFMO s associate members; Recruit new municipal corporations and associate members as members of the AFMO; Develop templates and linguistic support tools for the municipal sector; Update the AFMO s website to promote communications between members and to increase awareness, throughout our communities, in regard to municipal affairs; Negotiate for the purpose of agreements and execute subsequent decisions between communities for their growth and economic development, as well as that of the municipal sector; Continue the implementation process of the Ontario Provincial Police s French Language Services Strategy (FLSS) and collaborate with partners from the Francophone Ontario Justice sector in the elaboration of the strategic operational plan. History The Francophone Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AFMO) was founded in 1989, by Gisèle Lalonde, then Mayor of the City of Vanier. Her goal was to uphold and improve municipal services delivery and governance, in both French and English, in the regions within the province that are designated under the French Language Services Act of Ontario.
