Why gas as a marine fuel? What are the issues? Performance Competition ENVIRONMENT Regulation & Rules Ship Types Safety New Build or Retrofit? Technology Public Perception Availability Price 3

Ship Type World Fleet : ships >500GRT Current Gas Fueled Fleet: 0.14% 1500 ships 7 years 2.75% of world fleet Most are represented Shortsea, Deepsea, Pax, Cruise, Container, Dry, Tanker, Offshore 80 Gas Fueled Ships in Operation 80+ Gas Fueled Ships on Order Cruise Sector Container Sector MIXED FUEL FLEET for many years to come Source: DNVGL LNGi portal Oct 2016

Maersk Line Fleet The Maersk Liner Business fleet in numbers Charter 261 Own Total Note: Maersk Liner Business fleet in numbers as of 26 January 2017 EXAMPLE fleet - This is LESS THAN half of what we expect to see in 5-7 yrs Retrofits very unlilkely Newbuilds Highly likely MUST be economically viable ANY sector ANY Ship type Energy usage - emissions are equivalent to one medium sized Industrial Nation Skorea, Germany, Japan Chartered Vessels Owned vessels Slide 5

AVAILABILITY Was everywhere and nowhere - terminals Terminal and Port initiatives are key Gas Cost Factor is a 4 to 7 times higher infrastructure cost Europe as a whole cluster 70 projects 28 operational 16 decided 26 proposed Not happening overnight but is gaining momentum Mostly by truck At least five new vessels in 2017 (Small LNG carriers as LNG Bunkering Vessels) Initiated by subsidy, now on its own largely Mixed fuels in use here, growing proportion on LNG and not just marine sector 1) Pipeline, Truck, Industry 2) Marine 3) Rail

Environment CH 4 Facts Lots of stats and comparisons available Maritime is just getting around to solving the Sulphur problem MEPC70 Yet Carbon is the big issue, Shipping focus at COP22 etc? Use of Gas improves Carbon reduction but does not solve it (maximum is 22% red) Meanwhile. CO Population Increase = Shipping growth Public wants cheaper goods everywhere all the time in the shortest time Just what is the Impact of shipping on Climate Change? Maritime needs to speed up! NO x SO x Particulates HFO / MGO DF Gas Diesel Cycle either Cycle 0

Summary Natural gas - LNG is the last abundant fossil fuel available Simplest Hydrocarbon cleanest burning but not zero CO 2 Questionable how quickly and by how much it will it grow in which sectors 1500 vessels within 10 years? less than 3% of the world fleet % Infrastructure is developing but is costly takes time Every transport sector also wants to use LNG as fuel competition Take up is mostly driven by Environment - Regulation LNG bunkering so far has mostly performed from LNG road tankers Cruise and Container sectors are likely users All four modes will be used and is quantity dependent A few bunkering terminals exist more are coming Likely that bunker vessels and later shore to ship will dominate in the long term as the preferred transfer mode
