Our focus in the Energiewende : Combined heat and power production Expansion of district heating Renewable energy for power and heat production Energy efficiency Renewable energy commodities we are working on this already for years and now with increasing efforts
What we do As integrated utility we are applying nearly all classical efficiency technologies Combined heat and power production (CHP) Heat recovery with and without heat pumps Efficient lighting (streetlights and building) Optimized hydraulic and pumping Efficient cooling
What we do And we support our customers by offering them contracting for CHP for new and existing buildings and for industry Renewing the lighting in industrial production sheds Efficient streetlights for our city and other communes
Why do we help saving energy? Don t they want to sale energy as much as possible? SWBB is 100 % communal and owned by the citiziens of Bietigheim-Bissingen! There are no interests and influences of private shareholders Our targets are satisfied customers and long-term cooperations

Optimization of water preparation in our indoor and open air bath Savings kwh/a, 25% electricity consumption by using optimized hydraulic and pumping Investment Economy Pay back time: less than one year because of less electricity consumption
Content 1.) SWBB: Who we are 2.) SWBB: What we do 3.) Energy Efficiency Projects for communes and their citizens Streetlight contracting CHP and CO 2 reduction 3.) Energy Efficiency Projects for our customers Helping customers to save energy SWBB Contracting best practice 4.) Some examples Heat supply in a residental building Optimizing of a heating system Lighting Contracting
Helping customers to save What did we? Good for the environment and a good consience Replacing old by new high efficient cooling devices is a cost efficient way to save energy Despite this, only few customers buy high efficient cooling devices due to lack of knowledge We started a pilot project to inform our customers
Energiesparinitiative der SWBB What we were doing? Cooperation with BSH a pilot project Our targets: 1. Advicing consumers on energy-efficient appliances 2. Pushing the replacement of old appliances with new energy high efficient (Energieeffizienzklasse A+++) ones Our clients get a 50 Euro subsidy if they buy a new energy efficient cooling device (maximum of 400 appliances)
Guerilla Activities Presentation of old and new refrigerators directly to the customers Energiesparinitiative der SWBB Where: Bietigheim downtown and railway station OBI store Bietigheim market place Ludwigsburg EgeTrans Arena
Energiesparinitiative der SWBB
Content 1.) SWBB: Who we are 2.) SWBB: What we do 3.) Energy Efficiency Projects for communes and their citizens Streetlight contracting CHP and CO 2 reduction 3.) Energy Efficiency Projects for our customers SWBB Energieeinsparinitiative SWBB Contracting best practice 4.) Some examples Heat supply in a residental building Optimizing of a heating system Lighting Contracting
SWBB-best practice Our pilot project in 2010: Renewing a lighting system in storage building of a furniture shop: I. Analysis 1. We analyze the energy consumption and identify areas where it is above-average 2. We show how much energy can be saved by using efficient technology 3. We show the investment that is necessary and calculate the profitability and pay-back times
SWBB best practice: Renewing a light-system II. Detailed analysis We engage external experts to identify the possibilities for saving energy. Our customers get a detailed report to take decisions for the improvement of their existing technologies
SWBB-best practice III. Planing and optimizing Our experts develop detailed plans and organize the professional installation and optimization of the new technology Result of our pilot project: ca. 60 KW reduction of electrical peak demand Means saving of kwh / year
SWBB-Contracting IV. Financing We offer the complete financing of renewing energetic installations. Our customers benefit from quick implementation. They profit immediately from energy saving and reduced costs. They pay a fixed monthly contracting-rate (e.g over 6 years). The rates should be at least financed by the savings of energy costs If not it is very difficult to convince the customers for a project
Light-Contracting profitable for customer and Stadtwerk? A lot of very old lighting systems (10 years and older) with high costs of maintenance The majority of our customers underestimates these costs The increase of prices for power makes this technology interesting Prices for LED technology are continuously on the decrease LED is a high efficient technology
The benefits for our customers We realize a new and high efficient lighting system our customers benefit from savings by energy and costs for maintenance The liquidity is not restricted because our clients pay rates monthly No influence for the rating Stadtwerk as a competent und reliable partner We offer individual solutions for our customers instead of readymade products No additional costs because the rates are refinanced by the savings
The benefits for us Image: We want to develop from just being an energy supplier to a competent business partner that offers all the know-how for energy issues => demarcation to the supra-regional competition. Noticed as an environmental orientated company. Customer loyalty: Long-lasting agreements with energy contracting. Acting as an energy consultant for the costumers (other energy consultants are also interested in selling supply agreements). Adding value: Intensive cooperation with the regional industry
Content 1.) SWBB: Who we are 2.) SWBB: What we do 3.) Energy Efficiency Projects for communes and their citizens Streetlight contracting CHP and CO 2 reduction 3.) Energy Efficiency Projects for our customers SWBB Energieeinsparinitiative SWBB Contracting Best practice 4.) Some example Lighting Contracting Heat supply in a residential building Optimizing of a heating system
Lighting contracting some examples Restoration a lighting system in a butcher s shop in Bietigheim Basic dates of the old lighting system: built in 1999, efficient in this time electrical demand: 11 kw Energy consumption before restoration: ca kwh
SWBB-Contracting The result: an economical and flexible light concept due to LED technology By the use of LED, combined with controlled lighting-system which manages the lighting in different areas Saving electricity: kwh for lighting kwh for the cooling-system With a 6-year financing plan the reduction of costs is higher than the monthly contracting-rates Right from the start the customer saves money because the saving of energy is higher than the contracting-rate!
SWBB-Contracting Exchange of Lighting in a production hall in 2013 Basic date old lighting system: 400 W HQI technology Replaced by T5-technology Advantages: Combinable with motion dectors dimmable additional saving of energy (40%) by using day-light
Restoration of a production hall 2013, the result: A surplus of more than per month Offer SWBB-Contracting Investment SWBB: Savings: Reduction of energy consumption p.a.: kwh Reduction of costs (energy and running costs) p.a SWBB-Contracting Contracting: Duration: 6 years Contracting-rate: Monthly saving: ca Yearly benefit:
SWBB-Light-Contracting Summary: What we did: Our total investment: Saving energy p.a.: kwh Saving costs p.a.:
Heat supply with CHP for residential building with 87 flats Possible savings kwh/a (21%) gas by using CHP Financing by SWBB Customers pay the normal heat price Profitability by making use of CHP-subsidy
Optimization the steam supply of a production process Actual Situation kw installed steam generation power - About 10 % is needed, very bad efficiency MWh/a gas and MWh/a electricity consumption Planned Contracting project by SWBB - Installation of a 100 kwel Gas-turbine, supplying 75 % of electricity and steam demand (CHP) - New steam generator about 500 kw Investment Savings /a
