Operating Locations Hatcheries Russell Falls Rookwood Rd Marine farm sites Dover Huon River Bruny Island North West Bay Tasman Peninsula Macquarie Harbour
Proposed expansion to 2030 Tassal has undertaken a South East Optimisation process Tassal proposed expansion to WOW Okehampton Bay WOW proposed Zone covers an area of 180 Ha (four leases of approximately 45 Ha); Okehampton proposal is a 28 pen; 80Ha lease area.
Environmental Management Annual Compliance sediment monitoring via DPIPWE ROV assessments to assess stocking/fallowing regimes Independent BEMP as part of Area Management Agreement Water Quality Sediment chemistry and biology Onsite daily water quality assessments and real time logging and data basing of parameters Sensitive habitat surveys (reefs & seagrass beds)

Algae plumes & blooms No known relationship between salmon farming and harmful algal blooms Shellfish bio-toxin currently active on the east coast. Salmon farms are primarily in the Huon and D Entrecasteaux to the south Daily algal monitoring is conducted at marine sites. Species diversity and abundance is recorded
Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) Tassal are currently undergoing trials for kelp grow-out at several sites in the south east Three species selected: Macrocystis pyrifera (Giant kelp) Eklonia radiata (Common kelp) Lessonia corrugata (Strapweed) All three species are naturally occurring in Tasmanian waters Harvested for use as alginates, aquaculture dietary supplements Okehampton proposal aims to combine mussel, kelp and salmon aquaculture in one lease area
Noise and visual impacts Salmon pens and barges designed with loss of visual amenity in mind; Licencing requirements state farm infrastructure is to be black or grey in colour and as low-lying as possible; Feed barges engineered sound mitigation reduce the impact of generators. Farms have extremely strict noise guidelines with penalties if exceeded; Tassal goes above and beyond meeting our requirements as per our leadership in community engagement and ASC reporting.
Navigation & Lighting Working with MAST & Tasports to improve navigational safety for recreational and commercial vessels in Channel & Huon Rivers Other options = sector lighting, radar reflectors Lighting into Nubeena has been improved light on Apex Point and red lease markers on outside (Port side)
Lighting Enhance night time navigation for both recreational and commercial users within Huon and D'entrecasteaux region; Tassal and local company developed a marker design to support the addition of the new style of light; Tassal and Huon Aqua. adapted three different off-set groups to enable boat users to distinguish between the different leases; Within each lease, the lights are synchronised to flash at the same time
AIS & Navigation Tassal investigating instalment of Automatic Identification Systems (AIS) transponders on lease boundary markers and potentially cages under tow to aid safe navigation; AIS-equipped vessels present the bearing and distance of nearby special markers, vessels or any other AIS-compatible objects Viewed via chart-plotter, computer or smartphone using the Shipfinder application
Lease - Zone ZONE LEASE LEASE Corners marked by navigational markers Surface infrastructure All sea cages/fish/barge No entry by recreational vessels ZONE Not marked Houses underwater mooring system Can travel through no impingement to navigation
