2 Workshop Information - ABOUT - The goal of this workshop is to help foster energy education by connecting science education to the energy industry. During the workshop, each teacher will receive resource materials, classroom supplies, lesson plans, poster, maps, Science Standards, Benchmark Connections, internet links and activities, plus a few other special surprises! Four learning stations will include hands-on experiments, background information, graphic organizer ideas, internet activities and career connections. This free teacher workshop includes: overnight accommodations, meals, curriculum, classroom supplies, material kits, hands-on sessions, a special field trip, CEU credit documentation, plus much more! - LOCATION - The workshop and overnight accommodations (if applicable) will be held at the Radisson Hotel at The University of Toledo, which is located at 3100 Glendale Avenue, Toledo, Ohio Information for workshop room location and overnight accommodations will be provided to each registrant closer to the time of the workshop. - REGISTRATION & CANCELLATION POLICY - Early registration is encouraged because this workshop is limited to only 40 participants and will fill up quickly! Once registered, you will receive a confirmation letter, or a notification that you have been placed on a wait list. No walk-in registrations are permitted. Workshop limits: 4 teachers per school, 4 out-of-state teachers total, and no home-school teachers at this time. All applicable registration fees must be paid prior to attending the workshop, unless specific arrangements have been made in advance, and will not be refunded for no shows. In the event you must cancel your registration, please let us know at least 14 days PRIOR to the workshop so that we can promptly fill your position with someone on the wait list.

3 8:00 AM - Registration / Continental Breakfast - WORKSHOP Schedule - 8:30 AM - Workshop Begins (Lesson plans and hands-on activities) Migrating & Trapping: Is crude oil and natural gas found in large lakes underneath the earth s surface? Experiments show how crude oil and natural gas are trapped in porous rocks. Create 2D and 3D rock models to demonstrate porosity and permeability. Drilling & Well Stimulation: How do we recover crude oil and natural gas? Use engineering design to create two models: a weight-bearing derrick and a working oil well applying principles related to porosity, permeability and flow of fluids to the surface. Producing: What happens to crude oil and natural gas once it is produced? How is it transported? Create a model pipeline and pipeline pig and apply principles of force, motion, velocity and engineering design. Petrochemicals & Products: What other products besides transportation fuels are made from crude oil and natural gas? Explore a few of the 6,000 petroleum-based products. Design and implement a materials test for different petrochemical-based fabrics. 12:00 PM - Field Trip to the Oregon Clean Energy Center Transportation and lunch will be provided. IMPORTANT! Hard hats, safety glasses, ear protection, FR coveralls and steel-toe shoe covers will be provided for all teachers, however, please wear sturdy boots or shoes - absolutely NO open-toe shoes, sandals or flip-flops will be permitted. 4:00 PM (approximately) - Adjourn The facility, which is the first new-build combined cycle natural gas turbine electricity plant built in Ohio since the early 2000s, was privately financed and built without taxpayer dollars or government subsidies. Relying on locally produced clean burning natural gas, this cutting- edge, state-of-the art electric power generation facility provides clean, reliable and competitively priced power for more than 700,000 homes. Oregon Clean Energy Center is one of the most advanced, efficient natural gas-fired electric power plants in the U.S. The facility proudly produces clean electricity as power generated from natural gas combined-cycle plants emits 90 percent less sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide, mercury and fine particulate matter and half as much carbon dioxide. Thanks to greater use of clean-burning natural gas in power generation, the U.S. is the global leader in reducing carbon emissions as America s CO2 emissions have fallen to the lowest level since 1992.
