1 SOCIAL WORKER BAND C GRADE 4 SUBGRADE 2 DIVISION: Human Services Child/Family & Adult Units ACCOUNTABLE TO: Social Services Unit Supervisor CLASS CODE: Non-Exempt PRIMARY LOCATION: Mantorville, MN NORMAL HOURS: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. 1 DATE OF LATEST REVISION: 8/1/2013 JOB PURPOSE: Under direction, performs work in providing social work services on cases involving complex social problems and social treatment plans; performs responsible and challenging casework, directs service programs and/or provides work direction to paraprofessional staff; and performs related work as assigned. Duty Essential Duties Frequency B/G No. 1. Interview client at intake, evaluate and assess problem, determine appropriate type and method of resolution, and provide competent follow through services. 2. Carry an assigned caseload where a need for continuing social casework exists. 3. Provide competent direct and indirect social work, case management, advocacy, advice, and guidance services to all eligible individuals and families while maintaining proficient documentation and case records. 4. Identify client situations which require intensified services and bring same to the attention of colleagues and/or supervisor for help or referral. 5. Provide assistance to colleagues in providing resources and services to other clients. 6. Interpret programs, services, policies, and procedures with clients and assist client in decision making process. 7. Promote and provide educational and preventative services to all county residents. 8. Prepare appropriate plans and reports. Document all SSIS information in an accurate, thorough and timely basis. 9. Provide work direction to social work para-professionals.
2 10. Participate in training and staff development activities to increase knowledge of social work practice in application to individual cases. 11. Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with other staff, units, departments, and community agencies. 12. Make appropriate and timely referrals to other community agencies. 13. Perform other duties as assigned. Performance Indicator: Adherence to all rules, policies, and guidelines that establish standards and procedures and satisfactory documentation on Performance Review form. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A bachelor s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in social work, psychology, sociology or closely related field OR A bachelor s degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in any field and one year of experience as a social worker in a public or private social services agency. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of the principles and techniques of interviewing and recording in social work and the ability to apply them. Knowledge of individual and group behavior and ability to apply to specific job duties. Knowledge of social casework objectives, principles, and methods and ability to incorporate these into daily functions. Access to reliable transportations. Knowledge of socio-economic factors which promote stable family life and understanding of the elements which affect family security; ability to interject this appropriately into case planning. Knowledge of the principles of community organization and ability to apply this where appropriate. Knowledge of physical and mental illness and their impact on personality; ability to apply these concepts to ensure competent case management and advocacy. Knowledge of social welfare research methods and ability to apply where necessary. Knowledge of family systems and dynamics and ability to effectively utilize knowledge for competent case planning. 2

Functional ability to work constructively within an agency in the community setting and effectively utilize appropriate resources and services. Ability to work creatively in the development and coordination of community resources to meet special needs. Ability to manage time productively. Ability to prioritize caseloads.
