1 Job Description Job Title Communications & Information Officer CO (fixed term, maternity leave cover) Location Salary Post Reports to Job Purpose Contact with Belfast NJC SO1, commencing at 26, % employer pension contribution Full-time (35 hours per week) maternity leave cover Director/Organisational Development Manager To ensure that timely information, external communications and engagement supports the advice sector in NI; to promote and communicate a clear, consistent and positive image of the organisation to stakeholders and effectively market the organisation s services to stakeholders and others. Law Centre NI staff Law Centre NI members Relevant organisational sub-committees Media Elected representatives Policy makers and other external stakeholders Other appropriate individuals and organisations MAIN DUTIES To increase awareness of the work of the Law Centre NI amongst stakeholders through appropriate communications, information, external affairs and marketing activities; To support the effective development and implementation of the Law Centre NI s information, communications and marketing strategy and plan; To support the Deputy Director and Director to ensure the operational effectiveness of the information, communications and marketing strategy and plan and to monitor, evaluate and report on all aspects of this activity; 1

2 To proactively plan, produce and disseminate Law Centre NI information and other materials to enhance public awareness of Law Centre NI s strategic priorities, including high quality information that supports generalist advisers, informs policy and public debate and enables the general public to understand their rights and entitlements; To ensure that the communication priorities of the Northern Ireland Advice Strategy are appropriately delivered by the Law Centre NI; To undertake periodic stakeholder mapping to ensure that information, communications and marketing activities are appropriately targeted; To maintain awareness of developments relating to the Law Centre NI s areas of work and objectives, providing advice to the Senior Management Team and leading on strategic communications; Through appropriate communications, public affairs and marketing activity, optimise opportunities for the Law Centre NI to achieve its strategic objectives; To provide effective and timely media and public relations advice and support to the organisation as required; To manage media relations and act as contact point for media queries, preparing media responses and undertaking such media work as required to support the Law Centre NI s objectives; To author high quality and timely copy for media professionals and other materials for a range of audiences across a range of media; To work as part of the communications team to build the organisation s social media profile in support of the Law Centre NI s objectives and strategic priorities; To have lead responsibility for maintenance of the Law Centre NI s website, drafting content for its website ensuring the website is regularly updated in support of its objectives and strategic priorities; To manage the production of the Law Centre NI s annual impact report and other documents as required; To work with colleagues and other stakeholders to effectively organise, coordinate, communicate and market Law Centre NI events; 2

3 To identify opportunities for income generation, agree targets and implement as appropriate; To identify and maximise organisational development opportunities; To monitor and undertake statistical analysis of information, communications and marketing activity and report on communications and marketing activity, including to Law Centre NI management team. OTHER DUTIES To represent the Law Centre NI to external stakeholders and organisations as required; To act as an ambassador for the Law Centre NI, upholding its public image in all its information and communications activity; To be available to work outside standard business hours on occasion in order to meet the demands of the role; To undertake such other duties as may be required from time to time. Professional Development To agree individual objectives and set priorities in accordance with those objectives; To identify own training and professional development needs in consultation with the Line Manager and source appropriate support; To build stakeholder confidence in Law Centre NI information and communications activities through high standards of personal and professional accountability. 3
