7 Netball player Baker Problem solver Data analyst EMILY STRATEGY ACE IT S GOOD TO BE GIVEN THIS LEVEL OF RESPONSIBILITY, IT MAKES ME FEEL TRUSTED AND VALUED AS PART OF THE WIDER TEAM. ARE YOU A STRATEGY ACE? Strategy Aces ask the right questions and help our people make the right decisions for our business. Eager to apply new knowledge where it s needed, they tackle complex business problems and explain complicated ideas, clearly. Analytically minded and communicative, they build influential relationships. Netball teaches me how to play to a strategy and communicate in a team. And in the evenings, cake decorating classes teach me to be patient and to concentrate on detail and patterns. I actually use similar skills in my apprenticeship, analysing financial data, identifying patterns and investigating things that don t add up. We follow a particular strategy, always liaising closely with other teams to achieve a common goal. I do a lot of financial investigating in my job, it s something I really enjoy and am actually quite good at. Because of the nature of my investigations, no two breaks (our word for financial anomalies, or things that don t add up) are ever the same, so I d definitely say that every day is different. You could call me a finance detective, even though I still have many things left to discover about being an Analyst, and about being myself. This programme aims to support a culture of collaboration and kindness in today s and tomorrow s leaders. It pairs up leaders from the Women of the Future Awards and Asian Women of Achievement Awards, with female students, providing them with inspiring mentors and role models. From coding champs to digital novices, they re drawn to innovation and inspired to adapt technology to improve people s lives and transform our business. BETH Data processor Pilot Designer Planner Presenter PIARA TECH MARVEL In my spare time I plot my flight paths, at work I plan my future. I m a keen pilot. Nothing beats the feeling of flying, especially when you re at the controls. And that s what I like about this apprenticeship I m in control of my career, working with my mentor to go places. I m on a journey discovering all kinds of job possibilities. It s only by being in a place, working, learning, earning, that you find out what s available. My advice is to get an apprenticeship in something that interests you and start exploring from the inside. I knew a bit about technology before I joined, and now I m writing code for our mainframe computers, analysing how they re performing, and working out their capacity for supporting the business. I m learning from experienced people, and even presenting to large groups of IT specialists, which for me is more nerve-racking than flying a plane but I m doing it and my confidence is going up and up. Agile working, work-life balance, flexible hours I get these as an apprentice. Two days a week I m Miss Agile, working from home with my mobile phone, laptop and wifi, analysing and processing data, and in the office I do 6am to 3pm to avoid the rush hour. This leaves my evenings free for fashion blogging and skating, so I m productive in and out of the office. One of my proudest moments so far is hosting an apprentice networking event for school and college students, to which I invited senior leaders from my network to come and promote our apprenticeships. I also got up on the podium and shared my experiences, letting the audience know that university isn t the only route to success. We re all different we just have to be agile and flexible in how we develop ourselves. 9 Fitness addict Politics expert Professionally qualified Manager MY ADVICE TO YOU WOULD BE TO FIND AND FOLLOW YOUR PASSION. GET ON A LLOYDS BANKING GROUP APPRENTICESHIP AND START DISCOVERING, LEARNING AND EXPLORING. ARE YOU A RELATIONSHIP CHAMPION? Our Relationship Champions love connecting with people and enjoy building deep and trusting relationships. They work with customers, from individuals to big businesses, to make sure they re getting what they need. They also inspire colleagues within our business to develop and deliver more of the products and services that put our customers first. TOM RELATIONSHIP CHAMPION The most important thing about managing a branch? Be yourself. I wasn t even two years into my apprenticeship and already I d moved to another part of the country and been given my own high street branch to manage. I have my Nan to thank she supported me when I left university early to start in customer services at my local branch. Now I m a branch manager, studying for a finance degree that s getting me interested in the relationship between politics and the financial markets. It may even influence my next career move. I m becoming a leader and discovering new depths to my character. Part of you thinks that when you re made branch manager you should change and become someone else. But no you should keep being who you are, building relationships, managing people your way and being true to yourself, which is why they hired you. That s when you change naturally, without forcing it. Confident, collaborative, quick-thinking, easy to be around, and able to see that every situation requires a different solution. Applicants to selected apprenticeship programmes are put to the test by completing a range of tasks in different virtual worlds. This innovative technology enables us to present situations that wouldn t be possible in conventional assessment processes. Candidates have complete freedom of movement within a 360-degree virtual world and can move virtual objects using tracked motion controls. And since we re looking for digitally-minded people, it s been great to see who s excited about using it too. For some people, it s reason enough to apply! 17

10 ARE YOU A SOLUTIONS PRO? Fitness addict Solutions Pros love finding better ways to do things. They develop ideas, influence people and help us to create new solutions and improve our processes enhancing the lives of our colleagues and customers alike. Fundraiser Creative, strategic and practical, they can see the finer details, as well as the bigger picture, and don t mind shaking things up if it means improving the way people work. Solutions Pros usually apply for apprenticeships in the following roles: RACHEL Alternative thinker Public speaker Netball player Athletics coach ELLIE SOLUTIONS PRO Leader Communicator Projects are about people listening, organising, motivating, making sure we hit our deadlines. I ve coached athletics and taught swimming, so I know that timings are important, and this is so true when you re learning to lead projects in a big organisation. How do you juggle the balls without dropping them? How do you keep a project on track? It s like playing Centre in a netball team, where the ball keeps coming to you, and you have to decide where to distribute it that s project management. Also, how do you ask very busy senior people to deliver project information by a certain time? I can get a bit nervous about this because I m still quite new, but my mentor is brilliant at supporting me. And people actually respond very positively you just have to find the right way to communicate. I wanted to help change perceptions about apprenticeships, so I went to 10 Downing Street and gave a presentation to support the UK Government s Apprenticeships initiative. I also gave an interview to the Daily Mail about my own apprenticeship journey. I am the Divisional PMO Lead for the Transformation Portfolio of Change a posh way of saying I manage a project team. I find solutions, often quite alternative ones, and report them up the line to senior colleagues who we call stakeholders. We ve planned 8,000 new apprenticeships for 2020, so the opportunities here are almost as vast as my trek across the Grand Canyon to raise money to fight cancer. The future s bright for apprentices. 11 ARE YOU A PEOPLE MAESTRO? Traveller Socialiser Netball player Organiser Marketing expert JASMIN PEOPLE MAESTRO I had A Levels and a place at uni, but I chose to kick-start my career and go straight into marketing. I m a sociable person, always happy to chat to people, although I also like to get things done. I was the under-18 rep on the committee for my local netball team and I get very passionate when I m performing in a team, always wanting to do my best to help with morale and team bonding. These personal qualities have come into play in my apprenticeship, making projects happen, and simplifying information about our financial products so that customers understand them, find them interesting, and ultimately choose them. Obviously, I have regular face-to-face meetings, but I m also discovering the importance of non-verbal communications, like writing good clear s. If you like working with people, you ll love this apprenticeship. I definitely got it right, starting my career now rather than later. People Maestros are crucial to our business, because people are the difference. Our business is only as successful and versatile as our people are. Follow. I thought the Group was just high street branches, but it s much bigger there s a world of opportunities here. I love going places and discovering new things, and I keep getting that feeling on this apprenticeship. It s opened my eyes to advertising on the street, on the radio, in social media. I think about the marketing strategies behind the slogans, the posts, the tweets, and I make presentations to agencies, challenging them to make our campaigns even more successful. Challenge excites me, and since I ve been at Lloyds Banking Group, that desire has helped me to complete a 320-mile round-trip cycle ride. Being on my own for the majority of it gave me some vital thinking time about where in the Group I want my next job to be, and how to get there. I think it s fair to say that all the huge advertising posters gave me some inspiration as well! 12 APPRENTICESHIPS OVERVIEW LEVEL 2 LEVEL 3 All Lloyds Banking Group Apprenticeships include on-the-job and off-the-job training that leads to industry-recognised qualifications. Intermediate Apprenticeship Equivalent to 5 good GCSE passes get off to a solid start as a Customer Services Assistant or a Customer Adviser in one of our branches or telephone banking centres. E.g. Customer Adviser Apprenticeship Advanced Apprenticeship Equivalent to 2 A Level passes give your career a head start as a Fraud Investigator, Banking Consultant, Assistant Relationship Manager or similar. E.g. Risk Management Apprenticeship GET READY TO DISCOVER MORE. APPLY NOW You ve had a glimpse at what it could be like to pursue your passions and discover new strengths at Lloyds Banking Group. You even know which area of the organisation you might like to join. Now all that s left to do is apply. We d like to get to know you as well as we can throughout this process so take your time, think about your responses and, as clearly as you can, share your interests, career goals and reasons why you want to work with us. Above all, be yourself! Depending on the apprenticeship you apply for, you may be required to complete different stages of this process. You must be aged 16 or over to apply. After you have completed that, and if you re applying for a higher apprenticeship (level 4 and above, and some selected level 3 apprenticeships), we may ask you to complete online tests to assess your strengths, behaviours and numerical reasoning skills. 2Interview At this stage there will be a face-to-face, telephone or video interview. We ll advise you in advance as to which type of interview we ll like you to complete. This is the final stage for all level 2 apprenticeships and, if you are successful, we ll make you an offer. LEVELS 4,5,6 & 7 LEVELS 6 & 7 Higher Apprenticeship Equivalent to a foundation degree or above get into marketing, project management, finance, IT and more. E.g. Associate Project Management Apprenticeship Degree Apprenticeship Equivalent to a bachelor s or a master s degree get on the path to management in any of our business areas and prepare to study for a degree, paid for by us. E.g. IT Degree Apprenticeship 3Assessment Centre For level 4 and above apprenticeships, if you pass the interview, we will invite you to an assessment centre to take part in individual and group exercises as well as participate in a virtual reality exercise within an immersive digital environment. Don t be alarmed, it will give us more of an idea of how you handle situations in person. Afterwards, we ll give you a personal feedback report, and if you are successful we ll make youan offer to join the programme
