Summer Vacation Requests Please keep in mind that this is a summer job. Required training dates are included in all hiring packages. All staff are trained on a regular basis. The Town requires a Police Information Check and a current copy of Standard First Aid Certification for all seasonal employees. 5 Parks and Facilities Student Positions In these jobs there is no doubt you will be proud to work in some of the Town s most spectacular places and iconic buildings! In the Parks and Facilities positions you are part of a large team of over 40 people maintaining the Towns many Parks and Facilities. We have many different roles and you will be assigned to a specific crew but remember we are a team and you will work on multiple crews. We are looking for staff who have a diversity of skills and abilities and most importantly are willing to learn, have a positive attitude and a great work ethic! Waterfront Crew 4 Student Positions Do you want to work where everyone else holidays? Join the Waterfront Crew and spend your days at the beach! This position will be assigned work along the waterfront of Saugeen Shores. The areas include but are not limited to Gobles Grove, Port Elgin and Southampton. Duties include operation of half ton pick up truck, golf cart, grass cutting, removing beach debris, beach grooming, garbage collection, washroom cleaning and other general maintenance duties as assigned. Active Parks Crew 2 Student Positions Is your happy place on a ball diamond or soccer pitch? Active Parks Crew staff are responsible for maintaining the athletic fields throughout the municipality. Duties include, but are not limited to, operation of half ton pick-up truck, tractor, dragging and lining ball diamonds, lining soccer fields and general maintenance to our parks. Parks Garbage Crew 3 Student Positions On this crew you travel throughout the town s streets, parks and waterfront emptying garbage bins and collecting litter. Duties include, but are not limited to, operation of mini packer, one ton truck, half ton pick-up truck, golf cart, ATV, emptying barrels in our Parks, Tourist Camps, main streets, and harbours and delivering waste to the Landfill Site. Washroom Crew 5 Student Positions Are you proud of your community? Join this crew to help keep our washrooms and facilities clean and safe. Staff is responsible to maintain approximately 30+ seasonal facilities throughout the municipality. Duties include, but are not limited to, operation of half ton pick-up truck, cleaning, stocking, small repairs, general maintenance and upkeep of Town buildings. Grass Crew 3 Student Positions Do you like spending time in the Town s green spaces and love the smell of freshly cut grass? Then join the grass crew. Grass Crew are responsible for cutting and maintaining grass in our 200+ acres of green space. Duties include, but are not limited to, operating half ton pick-up truck with trailer, tractor, riding mower, trimmers and push mowers. Horticulture/Downtown Crews 5 Student Positions Do you have a green thumb? Love caring for gardens and making Southampton and Port Elgin downtowns beautiful, then join the Horticultural Crew. These crews are responsible for maintaining approximately 170 gardens & passive parks throughout the municipality. 6 Facility Maintenance Crew 1 to 3 positions On this crew staff is responsible for assisting in the set up and teardown of events and building maintenance in our Facilities and assist with park maintenance. Duties include operation of half ton pick-up truck and trailer, tractor & riding mower, cutting grass, maintaining active parks and general maintenance duties including small carpentry and repair, cleaning, stocking, small repairs, general maintenance and upkeep of Town buildings. Part time/variable Hours Positions This position(s) will be for part time hours on as needed basis. Duties will vary depending on need and you will be assigned to various crews for various shifts. If you are just available part time and are willing to work on an as required basis, this job is for you. Waterfront Stewardship 1 Student Position Interested in the environment? This position will be assigned work along the waterfront of Saugeen Shores. Duties include: environmental education and stewardship, public presentations, site meetings with waterfront property owners, preparation of educational materials on waterfront stewardship to increase understanding and awareness of the Waterfront maintenance plan. This staff member will assist with other duties in different areas, as assigned. Note: This position requires an experienced student with at least 2 years Post-secondary education in environmental sciences/studies, communications, education or equivalent. Wage: Due to the advanced qualifications of this position the wage is: $17.50hr Forestry 1 Student Position Do you have experience and formal education in forestry, natural resources or environmental sciences? This job may be for you. This position will be responsible for undertaking a tree inventory in the Town s Parks and open spaces. The ideal candidate is trained in the sciences and has experience in fieldwork and data collection using GPS and GIS, tree and plant identification and natural resource inventory and mapping. Experience in data management and data quality control is necessary. Note: This position requires an experienced student with at least 2 years Post-secondary education in forestry, natural resources, environmental sciences or the equivalent. 7 Tourist Camp and Harbour Student Positions Tourist Camp Attendants 5 Student Positions Staff is responsible for maintaining the two municipal Tourist Camps of approximately 500 sites. Duties include, but are not limited to, operation of half ton pick-up truck, golf cart, riding mower, push mower, trimmer, garbage collection, washroom cleaning and general maintenance. Office duties include registration, administration, handling of financial transactions and public inquiries. 10 Adult Seasonal Positions Tourist Camp & Harbour Maintenance 1 Adult Position This 40 hour/week position will be assigned work at the Port Elgin Harbour and at the Tourist Camps. Work will include the day-to-day maintenance of these operations, as well as carpentry, electrical work and plumbing. This position is the town representative for any licenced event in town-owned facilities and ensures that the municipal alcohol policy is adhered to. 11 Assistant Harbour Master 1 Adult Position This 40 hour leadership position will be assigned work at the Port Elgin Harbour by the Harbour Master in the day-to-day operations of the facilities. You will assist the Harbour Master in supervising front line staff. Along with catering to visitors, Staff will keep busy making sure our approximately 250 seasonal boaters are provided with the services they require. Duties include, but are not limited to operating a half ton pick-up truck, golf cart, mooring, fueling and pumping out boats, garbage collection, washroom cleaning and general maintenance. Office duties include registration, administration, handling of financial transactions and public inquiries.
