2 TRAIN PERSON CAMPAIGN INFORMATION SHEET Salary: Bonus Entitlement: Probation Period: Benefits: DRS Offices & Depots: Normal Hours of work: Scope of Role: Starting salary 25,951 rising to 29,928 following training and completing 6 month probationary period successfully. Up to 5% Company bonus available based on Company Key Performance Indicators (KPI s). 6 month probationary period applies to all positions at DRS. Company Pension Defined Contribution Scheme 34 Days Leave (31 days annual leave and 3 bank holidays) o 4 blocked leave weeks o 11 floating days o 3 Bank Holidays (Xmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year Day) Generous Company sick pay Healthcare Family friendly employer offering childcare vouchers Employee assist programme Supporting employees health and wellbeing Head office: Carlisle Traincrew depots: Carlisle, York, Sellafield, Inverness, Grangemouth, Motherwell, Crewe, Rugby, Stowmarket & London. Train Person depots: Carlisle, Crewe, Grangemouth Shift work over 7 days per week Annualised hours hour year - Equivalent to an average 35 hour week Annualised hours broken down into 4 quarterly period flight paths, at the end of each quarterly period: o All hours above flight path will be paid in the following month o All hours below flight path will be cleared Hours worked above the quarterly flight path will be paid as follows: Hours above up to 20 hours will be at standard rate Hours above 20 up to 40 hours will be paid at 1¼ rate Hours above 40 up to 60 hours will be paid at 1½ rate Hours above 60 will be paid at 1 ¾ rate To undertake relevant training and assessments in line with DRS Training Programme in order to be competent to carry out fully qualified Train Person duties as required, to support DRS customer requirements.
3 Key Accountabilities To attain the necessary skills, knowledge and assessments to be able to perform the following duties: To carry out train preparation in support of all Direct Rail Services rail movements To carry out shunting duties in support of all Direct Rail Services rail movement requirements To comply with all procedures and instructions relevant to carrying out the role of Train Person To carry out on the ground activities in support of rail movements, e.g. Hand points operation To work to improve and maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety in yours and others working areas To carry out rail vehicle Fitness to Run examinations as required To comply with all necessary reporting procedures associated with this role e.g. Train Fault & TOPS Reporting To carry out road vehicle driving activities necessary to support rail movements To complete all rail movement documentation relevant to your role, and ensure effective hand-over on completion of these rail movements To undertake other duties as required by the needs of the business To ensure understanding and conformance to the company s Safety Policy, procedures and notices to minimise personal risks and safeguard the interests of the business Skills and Knowledge Please fully complete the application form and try to highlight under the additional information section how you feel you meet the following criteria: The successful applicant MUST possess: Ability to obtain a Personal Track Safety Certificate The ability to obtain Rolling Stock Technician Is able to adopt flexible working practices such as undertaking shift work Be medically fit to both Company and Railway Group Standard including drugs and alcohol testing (please see the Rail Safety and Standards Board website for further details of the medical requirements - Hold a Full UK Driving Licence This must be available for any assessments/interviews that you may attend. Additional Have the ability to work as part of a team as well as independently Have a conscientious/professional approach to work Have a good knowledge of the rail industry Show enthusiasm to training Show safety awareness Show an understanding of DRS business Show a good knowledge of rules and regulations Lives within one hour s commuting distance of the location or is willing to relocate (no relocation assistance on offer with this position)
4 DRS Train Person - Recruitment Process DRS are committed to ensuring development and progression opportunities are available to our employees. Candidates will be recruited into the role of Train Person having completed the industry psychometric assessments to enable them to progress within the traincrew grades. Timescales for this will normally be between 3-4 years of employment from passing out competent within the Train Person grade. The following information is designed to give you an overview of the DRS recruitment process. Stage 1 - Shortlisting Shortlisting will take place for all applications please be reminded to complete the application form in all sections as fully as possible and remember CV s will not be viewed. Stage 2 DRS Assessments Assessment centres will take place in a test environment to ensure fairness and consistency. The assessment centres normally takes place over ½-day, the assessments will include completion of: Verbal Comprehension Ability Test Mechanical Comprehension Ability Test Numerical Reasoning Ability Test TRFS Trainability for Safety Test SCAAT Safe Concentration and Attention Test Railway Rules and Regulations Test You may also require to have a short interview on your assessment day, this is dependent on numbers of candidates and availability of DRS staff. Driving licence requirements The Train Person role requires an aspect of car driving, so the proof of your driving licence is essential at the DRS assessment centre. You must bring your full UK driving licence, this must be the photo card for new licences issued from If you do not have your driving licence on attendance to the DRS assessment centre you will be unable to complete the assessments and your application will no longer be progressed with DRS. Unfortunately, there are no exceptions to this rule due to a valid full UK driving licence being required as part of this role. Stage 3 - OPC Online Assessments If you are successful from the DRS assessments, you will be required to complete online assessments through the OPC (Occupational Psychology Services). The assessment details will be ed to you and you will be given a deadline for completion, normally around 1 week. If you do not complete these within the deadline, your application will no longer be progressed with DRS.
5 Stage 4 - Formal Interview If you are successful at both the DRS assessments and OPC online assessments, you will then be invited to attend for a formal interview. We expect interviews to last approximately 1 hour with additional time for paperwork to be undertaken. The formal interview will include questions to demonstrate evidence of interpersonal skills that are applicable to this post, such as flexibility and personal motivation. The interview panel will ask for examples from you to demonstrate. You may also be asked questions to assess your technical ability in areas such as rules and regulations, safety procedures, traction and route knowledge (if applicable). Stage 5 Industry Psychometric Assessments If you are successful through stage 1-4, you will be invited to attend an industry psychometric assessment. This could take place in one or two stages and will consist of the following assessments Attention Test - Group Bourdon & Test of Everyday Attention for Occupational Assessment (TEA-Occ) Memory Trainability for Rules and Procedures 1 - TRP1 Reasoning Trainability for Rules and Procedures 2 -TRP2 Vienna Test - Vigilance, Perception Test & Hand coordination Online situation Judgement Exercise Communication - Multimodal Interview (MMI) If you are successful at the assessment and interview stages, you will then be conditionally offered employment with DRS. The offer is conditional upon you passing the required medical standard and undergoing security vetting to the required level. Stage 6 Medical, Drug & Alcohol Screening You will be required to attend for a medical and drug/alcohol screening. These medicals will take place at our Medical Occupational providers, based at a location closest to you. Dates, times and exact locations will be agreed and confirmed directly with you. Stage 7 Security Vetting You must be aware that all successful candidates will be required to undergo security vetting including Nationality, reference and identity checks. To ensure you meet these requirements you will be requested to bring along valid ID to your interview/assessment. These documents are required to satisfy DRS s security regulations, duplicates and photocopies are not acceptable under any circumstances. Due to our security vetting process, we need to obtain employer references for the last 3 years, so this includes current and previous employers. References will not be sent to current employers without first discussing this directly with you. It imperative that all this information is supplied. Any candidate who cannot supply valid identification documents and employer references are unlikely to be progressed with Direct Rail Services Ltd, with this being an essential requirement of employment.
