2 JOB SUMMARY To develop and undertake an annual basis mental health awareness-raising and training programme designed to build the confidence and ability to engage with primary care services of 100 BME women across wales and to provide advocacy support, advice and guidance developed to support BME women in the community leading to an improved quality of life. To deliver coping and empowering sessions on an annual basis in order to promote opportunities for normal pattern of daily life for both those with mental ill-health and their carers. To collaborate with third sector partners on projects designed to increase awareness and overall mental health and wellbeing issues amongst ethnic minority communities. To organise and deliver annually an all Wales Health Fair (with equal focus on mental health) targeting individuals including service-users, service-providers, general public and key stakeholders. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES To deliver mental health awareness raising sessions targeting BME women by changing perceptions to tackle stigma/discrimination and raise awareness of signs and symptoms of mental health issues. To deliver Mental Health First Aid (Wales) courses annually - targeting community leaders/volunteers and service users. To provide advocacy, support and develop mental health advice, guidance and tailored practices to support service-users to make choices. To identify people with advocacy needs from BME Communities across Wales. To undertake individual case advocacy regarding mental health and social care issues as appropriate. To develop systems to signpost and refer to relevant organisations when necessary. To undertake individual case work To promote the development of BME Case Advocacy, through outreach to the identified communities along with liaising with local, regional and national networks. To deliver coping and empowering sessions every year including but not limited to: o Confidence building o Talking therapies o Stress management o laughter therapy o Health eating for positive mental health o Debt, and finance management o IT classes o Yoga Classes Page 2 of 5

3 To effectively monitor and evaluate the sessions to note service-users progress and target areas for improvement To lead on assessment of needs of individuals referred to the projects, obtaining additional information as necessary. To effectively manage and maintain case load to ensure that an effective service is delivered to its service users. To work with the service user to draw up support plans to meet identified needs, ensuring support is delivered in line with the support plan. To review progress and relevance of risk assessments and support plans and update accordingly to ensure that risk is managed effectively and monitored on a regular basis. To work co-operatively with other relevant organisations providing elements of the support plan. To involve service users in the development, running and evaluation of the service. To liaise with other agencies with and on behalf of service users as part of planned support, including participation in joint meetings and case reviews. To support service users to access information and advice in order that they are able to make informed choices in matters that affect them. To work towards project sustainability by involving and training 4 community leaders available from list of community groups we will be working with to tackle issues of language barriers and work towards sustainable change. To establish contact and partnership working scheme with 10 community, statutory and third-sector organisations. To meet with statutory organisations, community groups and third sector organisations annually to strengthen partnership working discuss project sustainability and avoid duplication of services to save costs and improve service delivery. To lead a steering group made up of service users, Project Manager and representative from Third Sector Council, to meet quarterly to monitor and evaluate the project progress. To monitor and evaluate the benefits of collaboration through enrolment forms, evaluation forms and record progress and disseminate findings twice annually to Welsh Government, Service Users and BME Community Groups. To book venues. To produce marketing posters and leaflets To encourage maximum attendance To organize stall holders To organize speakers Page 3 of 5

4 NETWORKING & LIAISON Inform and educate the community, voluntary and statutory sectors of the rights and needs of Black minority ethnic ( BME) community with regards to Mental Health. ADMINISTRATION To keep accurate notes of all support provided in line with funding requirements. To ensure that risk assessments, support plans and reviews are maintained up to date. To ensure all relevant information is shared with colleagues and other services as appropriate. To ensure all project communication methods are used appropriate and effectively. To ensure that IT systems are used effectively and in line with organisational procedures eg. Use of and database systems. To provide all relevant information to head office and external organisations as required. MEETINGS To attend meetings with other staff as required. To attend regular supervision sessions with Line Manager. To attend when required Board Meetings or sub-committee meetings. GENERAL DUTIES To maintain confidentiality in all matter relating to the organisation. To participate if requested, in the on-call rota and attend emergency situations, which may include evening and weekend work. To develop skills in all other areas of relevance to BAWSO S operation in order to allow for sharing and interchanging of staff roles. Agree and provide reasonable cover for the team during periods of absence. To attend appropriate training when required. To perform other relevant minor or non-recurring duties that may be needed from time to time. To work at all times as part of a team and to liaise closely with the Manager in carrying out the above duties. To ensure at all times that the projects service standards are properly monitored and adhered to. To ensure at all times that all areas of the projects work are positively promoted. Page 4 of 5

All papers and records are the property of BAWSO and must not be removed from the premises. All staff must sign BAWSO confidentiality clause. Any breach of this clause will result in summary dismissal, and may result in a claim from BAWSO for any damage or loss, which BAWSO may suffer. FLEXIBILITY CLAUSE In order to deliver services effectively, a degree of flexibility is required and the post holder may be required to perform work not specifically referred to above. Such duties however, will fall within the scope of the job at the appropriate grade. This job description will be subjected to review with the post holder, to ensure that it accurately reflects the duties and range of the post - the aim being to improve the quality of service for BME women and all matters relating to BME women s wellbeing. NB: The job description for this post will be reviewed annually. Priorities may vary from time to time as the project s service delivery changes The post is subject to available funding. This job description is indicative of the range of current duties and responsibilities for the post, it is not comprehensive. It is inevitable that the duties will change to reflect organisational change and it is essential therefore that it is regarded with a degree of flexibility, so that changing needs and circumstances can be met.
