1 Job Description Job title: Department/School: Information Officer Careers Advisory Service Grade: 6 Location: University of Bath Job purpose This is a significant post, the post holder having a substantial effect on clients perceptions and usage of the Careers Advisory Service. The post holder undertakes key information management tasks which ensure that the department delivers an accessible and appropriate range of high quality resources in both electronic and paper formats. In addition, the post holder leads in two development areas: implementation of web projects and the use of emerging technologies for the delivery of careers information dealing with complex enquiries and ensuring that all clients receive a high quality service. The department moved to new premises in January 2009, providing a notable opportunity for the improvement of front-of-house services. The Information Officer supports the Information Services Manager, and deputises in the absence of that post holder. The Information Officer also contributes to the collection and analysis of data for the Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education Survey, and for this work deputises for the part-time Destinations Survey Manager, dealing with DLHE enquiries in the Survey Manager s absence. 2 Main duties and responsibilities Information services Using advanced interpersonal and enquiry skills to meet clients careers information needs and encourage them in their career planning, and to model good practice to colleagues Responsible for implementing and evaluating structure, design and quality for web projects e.g. page templates, usage of emerging technologies Researching, obtaining, organising and disseminating careers information on occupations, vacancies, employers, professional bodies and further study Responsible for bibliographic records management, resource cataloguing and classification. Training and supporting colleagues with relevant tasks and technical skills Writing content for web pages and information leaflets for student and staff use, and contributing to the annual updating of information products Maintaining regular updating of web pages in tandem with the annual cycle of print publishing Responsible for maintaining postgraduate funding information Contributing to running a programme of occupational talks delivered by external speakers, in liaison with the Employer Services Team Enquiry duties on rota basis Visiting employers and writing reports on visits Marketing the Careers Advisory Service to students, including initiating and evaluating new marketing activities Contributing to the collection and analysis of student feedback and service usage statistics Deputising for the Information Services Manager when required. Destinations of Leavers from HE (DLHE) survey Analysing and presenting data in a range of formats as required by academic staff, admissions staff, students and other stakeholders Training temporary staff engaged to collect survey data, and responding to applicant enquiries Assisting with coding of data, including identifying coding problems Responsible for publishing data online Assisting with data collection and processing Deputising for the Destinations Survey Manager Page 2 of 5

General duties Keeping up-to-date with professional information issues Liaising with employers and other organisations over providing links and liaising with the Employer Services Manager in securing sponsorship. Participating in the staffing rota for responding to mailbox enquiries Organising the processing and circulation of post Supervising Information Assistant with physical processing of incoming mail, receiving bulk deliveries, and other tasks as appropriate Ordering information products Raising requisitions for purchase orders as required e.g. for printing services, training fees, membership fees, visitors expenses Any other duties specified by the Head of Service, the Information Services Manager or the Destination Survey Manager Page 3 of 5
