2 FROM AUSTRALIA S BEST EMPLOYERS Now in its 7th year, The National Employer of Choice Conference has once again assembled a unique line-up of public, private and not for-profit sector organisations that have become recognised as some of Australia s best employers. During the Conference, each organisation will outline key elements of their award-winning HR strategies and practices. This will provide a platform for people managers and HR practitioners to explore innovative approaches to attracting and retaining staff by becoming an industry leader through world class HR practice. The case studies presented during the Conference have been selected to address a variety of key themes that will assist conference delegates in building a blueprint for becoming a best employer within their industry. In recent years this nationally recognised Conference has guided hundreds of organisations closer to their goal of becoming an outstanding Australian employer. The demographic of the Australian workforce is changing rapidly and will look significantly different in the coming decade. This is due to well-known factors such as population aging, national labour shortages and increasing immigration, as well as the significantly changing attitudes of workers towards career and employment. The current Australian business climate calls for organisations to be more mindful in their approach to attracting, engaging and retaining talented and committed employees. In response, a growing number of organisations are pioneering innovative strategy designed to increase employee engagement and ultimately enhance performance.

4 THE NATIONAL EMPLOYER OF CHOICE CONFERENCE 2015 SYDNEY / MONDAY 22ND JUNE DALE NISSEN MANAGER - HEALTH SAFETY & WELLBEING - WORKSAFE VICTORIA Dale Nissen is the Manager Health Safety and Wellbeing at WorkSafe Victoria. Working closely with health industry professionals WorkSafe has built a comprehensive wellbeing strategy and range of programs to support it s employees under it s EVP brand - feelingood@work. In 2014 WorkSafe commenced an exciting pilot project aimed at providing pro-active psychological support to 120 employees across 4 workgroups. Dale will provide an overview of the organisations EVP, wellbeing program and the Professional Supervision Pilot. KATIE-JEYN ROMEYN DIRECTOR - COACH ON COLLINS Katie-Jeyn is a leader in closing the gender pay equity gap. Her business Coach on Collins helps companies bridge the gender divide and provides success coaching for women starting, changing or elevating their careers or enterprises. Prior to launching Coach on Collins, Katie-Jeyn had a 15-year career in the mining industry. Starting as a mine site administrator, she quickly progressed to executive leadership ranks. Her most recent corporate role was Executive General Manager People & Business Services with St Barbara Limited, an ASX-listed gold explorer and producer. In seven years at St Barbara, Katie-Jeyn led the company s pay equity gap reduction from a staggering 43% in 2007 to 11.4% in This result out-performed the mining sector s gap of 23.8 % in 2014 and the national gap of 18.2%. As a result, St Barbara won state and national awards, and was a recipient of the 2014 Workplace Gender Equality Agency s Employer of Choice for Gender Equality. MATTHEW FRANCIS AUSTRALIAN HR RISING STAR 2014 AUSTRALIAN HR AWARDS Matthew is a passionate Human Resources professional with generalist HR experience spanning Retail, Private Health Insurance, Government, and Not-for-profit. After early roles in internal recruitment, Matt developed a particular interest in performance/ talent management, leadership development, and the implementation/integration of HR technology. It is in this technology space that he and his RSPCA Qld colleagues were recognized with the Peter Williams Award for HR Technology at the 2014 AHRI Awards. He was also named Australian HR Rising Star at the 2014 Australian HR Awards, and has appeared in HRD Magazine on several occasions, including in the 2014 HR Hot List. Believing that an organisation cannot be any greater than the people who comprise it, and lead it, Matt sees Human Resources as the connective tissue between organizational and individual goals, and is committed to advancing the HR profession by continuing to position the function as a genuine business partner. NINA SOCHON LEADING EXPERT ON REMOTE AND FLEXIBLE WORK IN AUSTRALIA Nina Sochon is a leading expert on remote and flexible work in Australia. This year Nina is a featured expert on the national documentary Equilibrium Man. Nina has consulted with leading businesses in Australia, conducted research and provided advice to many Australian employers. Nina established and led the team that delivered the Federal Government s national work from home ( telework ) initiatives between 2011 and Nina now assists businesses to drive amazing service outcomes and powerful staff engagement through clear results management, leadership and highly productive remote and virtual work arrangements. Nina is an Associate Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management with experience managing her own virtual, remote and high performing teams. Nina has advised organisations at the executive level and is currently the lead expert on the Workplace Gender Equality Agency s education program that has established flexible work toolkits for people at all levels of an organisation.

He is not only passionate about providing Australia with a great start to their day but providing a great place to work for its employees. With over 25 years working in the human resources field Peter has been with Sanitarium for the last 5 years as a key driver in creating a culture that is aimed at sustaining Sanitarium in a competitive FMCG industry that is facing major challenges. Peter believes creating a positive culture is everyone s responsibility but no one plays a more important role than its frontline leaders. With his passion to understand people s behaviour, change their way of thinking and his ability to challenge the status quo Peter s goal is to achieve business outcomes through culture. WAYNE GOBERT HEAD OF PEOPLE AND CULTURE - ASSETLINK GROUP Wayne is responsible for the strategic direction and operational contribution of HR, Risk & Business Improvement, Communications, learning & development, and customer experience at the Assetlink Group. Over the past few years The Assetlink Group s has been awarded; Diversity Champion CEO of The Year and Cross Cultural Management award winner by AHRI, Best Company and Winner Innovation Through People award from the Building Services Industry Contractors Association, and recognised two years in row as a Top Employer by The Top Employers Institute. Wayne is a highly qualified and experienced business executive who brings and brings experience in various sectors of industry including facilities services, insurance and various global companies. Wayne holds qualifications from Stanford University and UNSW. He was awarded the Order of Australia in 2011 for his service to the community. ANDY MOFFAT CHIEF PEOPLE AND CULTURE OFFICER - TAL Andy joined TAL as its Chief People and Culture Officer in January He has extensive experience as a senior human resources executive in financial services firms and has worked in United Kingdom, North American and most countries in Europe. customer-centric journey across a number of different countries. Prior to this, Andy was the Human Resources Director for Aviva s Corporate Office and he held senior roles at Aduronet, Norwich Union, Teleglobe International, Intelsat and IBM UK Ltd. His key strengths are in driving culture change, enabling organisation development and aligning people practices to deliver business priorities. Most recently he was the Human Resources Director, Europe, at Aviva PLC where he aligned people processes around a Andy has a Master of Arts in Social Sciences from the University of Glasgow, a post-graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from the University of Aston and is a Graduate of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development in United Kingdom. A proud Scot, Andy was a semi-professional soccer player in his early years and is married with children. MARY-JANE IERODIACONOU MANAGING PARTNER - JUSTITIA Mary-Jane Ierodiaconou is the Managing Partner of Justitia, a law firm based in Melbourne and Canberra which advises employers on all legal matters relating to the workplace and HR, provides training and conflict resolution services. Justitia is an innovative law firm working with clients in a highly collaborative model. This was recognised by the legal profession in 2013 when Justitia was awarded Law Firm of the Year by the Law Institute of Victoria. In addition to managing the business with her business partner Sarah Rey, Mary-Jane has long been involved in community work, particularly with women and refugees. Mary-Jane is also a long standing member of the Advisory Board, Centre for Employment and Labour Relations, Law School, University of Melbourne.
