27 Standards and Organizations US Mandate V2x NPRM NPRM: Notice of Proposed Rlemaking Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards; V2V Commnications A Proposed Rle by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on 01/12/2017 SUMMARY: This docment proposes to establish a new Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS), No. 150, to mandate vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) commnications for new light vehicles and to standardize the message and format of V2V transmissions. Withot a mandate to reqire and standardize V2V commnications, the agency believes that manfactrers will not be able to move forward in an efficient way and that a critical mass of eqipped vehicles wold take many years to develop, if ever. Implementation of the new standard will enable vehicle manfactrers to develop safety applications that employ V2V commnications as an inpt, two of which are estimated to prevent hndreds of thosands of crashes and prevent over one thosand fatalities annally. 27

Insertion of secrity header extends the frame length Key calclation and verification of frames need time and resorces Rntime conditions change
