4 NOTABLE STATISTICS Indnesians use sme cmbinatin f banks and nnbank financial institutins (NBFIs) as a means t accessing financial services. They d nt use mbile mney. Nearly half (49%) f Indnesian adults have accessed financial services thrugh either a bank r NBFI. Seventeen percent have exclusively used banks, 20% have used NBFIs, and 12% have used bth. A cmbined 29% have used banks and clse t ne in fur (22%) are accunt hlders. One in five (19%) are active bank accunt hlders. Five percent f Indnesians have accunts with NBFIs such as rural credit banks and cperatives r venturas. Arisans are the mst widely used NBFI at 22%, but are nt an accunt-ffering medium fr accessing financial services. Bank, NBFI and cmbined users vary by gender, regin and incme levels. Thse wh have nly ever used banks are predminantly male, urban dwellers and thse living abve the pverty line. The demgraphics f NBFI-nly users are the ppsite f bank-nly users. They are predminantly female, rural dwellers and thse living belw the pverty line. Individuals having accessed bth banks and NBFIs are predminantly female, urban dwellers and thse living abve the pverty line. The NBFI-nly subgrup has the smallest gap between urban and rural use.

5 NOTABLE STATISTICS Financial activities f bank and arisan users are mstly basic uses. Mre than half f either grup had purchased grceries, paid bills, r made persn-t-persn transfers in the prir mnth. Active bank users were mre likely (9%) t have received gvernment benefits in the last mnth than were arisan users (7%). Indnesians are largely unaware f the cncept f mbile mney, and prviders. Only 3% knw what the cncept f mbile mney is. Just 6% f adult Indnesians have heard f at least ne mbile mney prvider, and mst f thse nly knw f ne f the marketplace prviders. Virtually n ne (<1%) is aware f mre than tw f the marketplace prviders. Amng thse aware, XL Tunai (38%) and T-Cash (37%) are the mst widely knwn prviders f mbile mney. E-Cash and Dmpetku are third and furth, respectively. Mass media, wrd-f-muth, and prvider-led targeted cmmunicatins are the primary drivers f mbile mney awareness. Nearly ne-quarter f the adult ppulatin has digital access t financial services; it is almst entirely thrugh banks. Ninety-six percent f thse with digital access t financial services nly have it thrugh banks. The majrity f active digital bank accunt hlders have access t ATMs and can transfer mney digitally. Frty-five percent can access their bank accunts thrugh mbile phnes r the internet.

21 GLOSSARY OF TERMS Access - Access t a bank accunt r mbile mney accunt means a respndent can use bank/mbile mney services either via their wn accunt r via an accunt f anther persn. Active accunt hlder An individual wh has a registered DFS accunt and has used it in the last 90 days. Active user An individual wh has used any DFS fr any type f transactin in the past 90 days via his/her wn accunt r smebdy else s accunt. Adults with DFS Access Adults wh either wn a DFS accunt r have access t smene else s accunt. Arisan A rtating savings and credit assciatin (similar t a ROSCA). This is an infrmal structure whse members meet regularly. Each member cntributes the same amunt f mney when they meet and ne member takes the entire pt f mney, n a rtating basis. Belw the Pverty Line - In this particular study, adults living n less than $2.50 per day, as classified by the Grameen PPI. Digital financial services (DFS) Financial services that are prvided thrugh an electrnic platfrm (mbile phnes, electrnic cards, the internet, etc.). Fr this particular study, digital financial services include bank services and mbile mney services. Digital stred-value accunt (DSVA) An accunt in which funds r a mnetary value are represented in a digital electrnic frmat and can be retrieved/transferred by the wner f the accunt remtely. Fr this particular study, DSVAs include a bank card (debit r credit) and a mbile mney accunt. Financial inclusin Fr the purpses f this study, thse with a bank, nnbank financial institutin r registered mbile mney accunt that ffer a range f financial services beynd credit are cnsidered financially included. Grameen Prgress ut f Pverty Index (PPI) A pverty measurement tl frm the Grameen Fundatin wherein a set f cuntry-specific questins are used t cmpute the likelihd that a husehld is living belw the pverty line. Mbile mney (MM) A service in which a mbile phne is used t access financial services. Registered active user A persn with a registered DFS accunt that has used it in the last 90 days. Urban/rural Urban and rural persns are defined accrding t their residence in urban r rural areas as prescribed by the natinal bureau f statistics.
