The data frm Activity Insight is laded int Schlars@Crnell and ther applicatins that feed yur public-facing prfile n Crnell sites. Accurate, thrugh entry f this infrmatin is critical. The data frm Activity Insight is als used t measure departmental prductivity. Activity Insight is pen t yu all year, except fr a brief perid in the Spring when it is clsed fr reprting purpses. It is generally advisable t enter items int the system sn after yu cmplete them, keeping yur recrds current. Wh t cntact fr questins: Cllege Administratr, Dianna Burger (dhb226@crnell.edu). Wh is Required t Reprt Annual reprting t the Senir Assciate Deans requires that Senir Academics and Prfessrial staff t reprt their activities. Thse wh have web prfiles where yur Department is pulling data frm Activity Insight t ppulate the web prfiles shuld reprt their activities. Extensin/Outreach activities shuld be reprted by anyne wh has presented infrmatin t the public, has cllected data r prvided research t supprt the extensin/utreach activity, r will be included as an authr n an extensin/utreach presentatin. These type f activities can be bth academic and staff psitins. Each persn shuld reprt their wn activities, if pssible, and shuld nt be added t activities f the prgram leader.

2 Accessing Activity Insight Open yur web brwser (Internet Explrer and Firefx are supprted best) G t If yu have difficulty accessing AI using this link, cpy the link int yur web brwser. If yu d nt have an active accunt in Activity Insight, please cntact the CALS Cllege Administratr If yu are already lgged int Kerbers, yu will be brught directly t the Digital Measures/Activity Insight welcme screen (Digital Measures is the cmpany that develps and supprts the Activity Insight prgram). If nt, yu will be brught t the Crnell Kerbers lgin menu. If yu are brught t the lgin menu, type in yur NetID and Kerbers passwrd (the same ne used fr ). Fr an verview f what t review and the screens available, please review the Data Entry Respnsibility (with Template) r Data Entry Respnsibility (withut Template) dcument prvided in the Useful Activity Insight Dcuments menu n the right side f the CALS Activity Insight screen. Reasns fr Cllecting Data The data cllected within the Activity Insight system is used t reprt varius activities t the Senir Assciate Deans and thers s that they can make strategic decisins and supprt requests fr prmtin/tenure. It is als used t ppulate faculty and academics web prfiles r ther utward facing applicatins fr ther researchers and students used t identify the prper academic staff member fr advising r cllabratin. Infrmatin is als cllected fr CALS Extensin and Outreach effrts t reprt t SUNY t supprt state funding and t thers interested in CALS extensin/utreach effrts. Hw t Enter Activity Infrmatin Manual Data Entry Faculty have an ptin f submitting their activities via a template t the Activity Insight Data Entry Team r manually entering data themselves. It is advised that faculty use the templates that are sent in a cmmunicatin frm the Senir Assciate Deans near the end f each year. This will allw faculty mre time t fcus n instructin, research r extensin/utreach activities. If yu plan t enter data int Activity Insight, Identify the activities that wuld need t be entered. Determine what screen the infrmatin shuld be entered int. Publicatins After pening the Publicatins screen, enter as much infrmatin yu have fr the fields displayed. Remember t Save each recrd when yu have cmpleted yur entry. When

3 selecting Jurnal Articles as the Cntributin Type, the Jurnal Name field will shw varius Jurnals we have listed in a Jurnal Instrument. As yu type, yur search will becme mre refined. If yu d nt see the name f the jurnal, then type in Nt in List and enter the name f the jurnal in the field belw labeled Jurnal Name, if Nt in List. Mre fields will appear if yu have selected Nt in List. See screen sht belw. The mst imprtant field t be entered in the Jurnal Details is the Peer Reviewed/Refereed? field since reprting f this jurnal uses this field t determine the categry f the publicatin (whether it will appear as a peer reviewed publicatin r nt). Other fields fund in the Jurnal Details sectin fr the Nt In List selectin des nt need t be ppulated because the CALS Activity Insight Data Entry Team will research and identify this infrmatin fr Jurnals that will be added t the Jurnal Instrument at a later date. Presentatins Yur instructinal r research presentatins are entered in the Presentatins screen. Fr Extensin/Outreach presentatins a decisin needs t be made if yu wuld like any f the presentatins shwn n yur web prfile. If yu d nt want any f the Extensin/Outreach presentatins t appear n yur web prfile, enter the data int the Annual Extensin/Outreach Presentatins screen. If yu want an Extensin/Outreach presentatin t be displayed n yur web prfile, please enter the details f the presentatin in the Presentatins screen. Please answer the questin Was this presentatin directed primarily tward New Yrk State residents and were participants required t enrll r register fr the presentatin r event? and prvide the cunts, if answered Yes fr the 3 fields listed under the If yu answered yes fr NYS residents and registratin/enrllment, please answer the fllwing questins (if N skip these):. If entering Extensin/Outreach activities in the Presentatin screen, it is nt required fr yu t include these activities in the Annual Extensin/Outreach Presentatin screen. Other Screens Besides the Publicatins, Presentatin, and Annual Extensin/Outreach Presentatin screens, there are ther screens that yu will need t review and update. Fr example,

4 if yu have received an award r hnr during the year, yu will need t update the Awards and Hnrs screen. Hw t Select Activities t Shw n Yur Web Prfile It is up t each CALS department t identify if they will be pulling data frm Activity Insight int web prfiles and wh will be able t have a web prfile. Please check with yur Department Chair Assistant r Department Web Services persn t determine if yu will have a web prfile with infrmatin pulled frm Activity Insight. If yur department prvides a web prfile using Activity Insight infrmatin, then yu will be limited t select 10 publicatins and 10 presentatins. Yu can use an interactive web tl t help yu relate Activity Insight infrmatin t yur web prfile. This tl will help yu understand what fields in Activity Insight wuld need t be updated if infrmatin is nt shwing r is incrrect n yur web prfile. This tl is called the Example Web Prfile t AI interactive map and can be fund n the CALS Activity Insight web page in the Useful Activity Insight Dcuments menu n the right side f the screen. Fr publicatins, please pen the specific publicatin yu wuld like t have shwn n yur web prfile and g t the rw cntaining yur name as an authr and update the questin Is this a selected publicatin? t Yes and als make sure that the questin at the bttm f the page labeled D yu wish this recrd t be viewed by the public? is als Yes.

5 Fr presentatins the fields that wuld identify a recrd that can be picked up fr display n a web prfile is fund at the bttm f the screen. Again, bth fields wuld need t be Yes. See screen sht belw fr an example. Hw t Run Reprts Custmized Reprts Certain reprts have been created and made available based n access rights. There are certain reprts that can be run by varius clleges and then thers were develped and labeled specifically fr a particular cllege. The reprts that were created fr a specific cllege have the cllege s name at the beginning f the reprt title. G t Run Reprts in the main menu. Scrll t the reprt yu wuld like t run and select it.

6 Chse the date range t be included in the reprt and select wh shuld be included in the reprt (by individuals, certain departments, r the whle cllege) by clicking n Change Selectin link in Sectin 2 Whm t Include. See example belw. After saving yur selectin(s), then click the Save buttn which will return yu t the criertia reprt screen and click the Run Reprt buttn. Yu will then be able t run the reprt. If yu wuld like t see the criteria used fr a Custm Reprt, yu can click the Dwnlad this reprt s template. This will shw yu fr each item reprted what screen the data is pulled frm and the criteria used against that screen.

7 Ad Hc Reprt Creatin Yu are able t create yur wn reprt by clicking n the Create a New Reprt in the Run Reprts selectin frm the main menu. Yu will have t cmplete 6 steps t create an ad hc reprt. 1. Select the date range fr yur reprt 2. Select wh yu wuld like t include in yur reprt. 3. Select what screens and data frm the screens yu wuld like t have included. 4. Yu culd grup the reprt by individual r ther grups. 5. Specify text yu want t use t find recrds within the screens yu have selected fr yur reprt. 6. Chse the file frmat fr the resulting reprt. Yu can save the reprt structure fr yu t alter and/r re-run later. After yu have cmpleted the 6 steps t create the ad hc reprt, select the Save buttn at the tp f the page and create a name fr yur reprt. Recmmendatin wuld be t create the reprt name in the fllwing frmat: Yur name_reprt Name s that yu can easily identify yur ad hc reprts frm the Custmized Reprts.
