1 Librarian National Library, Information and Knowledge Services The Alexander Turnbull Library is the research library within the National Library of New Zealand. The Library collects, preserves, and makes accessible the documentary heritage collections, including both published and unpublished items, of the Library. Librarians work across the Alexander Turnbull Library in a number of different teams, each with their own focus. The key tasks will vary according to the focus of their team, including providing research services, arrangement and description, and providing digitised copies. 2 Working effectively with Māori Te Aka Taiwhenua our Māori Strategic Framework enables us to work effectively with Māori. 3 What you will do to contribute Respond to Offsite Research Enquiries Respond to distance enquiries from offsite researchers via , letter and telephone. As a result we will see Responses show robust and appropriate research technique and clear communication skills. Researchers are able to successfully access, and use electronic and digital resources Current turn-around-time deadlines are met No significant backlog Positive client feedback Respond to Onsite Research Enquiries Conduct effective research interviews with onsite clients in order to understand their research topic and assist them to access the appropriate materials Researchers are able to successfully identify, locate, access, and use collection items and expertise that answers their research needs. Researchers understand how our processes operate and where appropriate are able to use them unassisted. Researchers receive a welcoming introduction to the Library s research services. Researchers connected with the appropriate specialists, curators and other organisations that can help them further their research. Page 3 of 6
4 What you will do to contribute Arrangement and Description Arrange, house and describe unpublished collections in accordance with ATL standards and processes. Contribute to peer review processes Understand and advocate for the value of good A&D As a result we will see Unpublished items are arranged, housed and described in accordance with ATL standards and processes Descriptive and thesauri work is accurate, consistent and thorough Archival principles of provenance and original order are followed Material is housed appropriately Records comply with content and encoding standards designated for use in ATL descriptions Descriptive records are completed within agreed timeframes A&D issues and decisions are communicated Supply high-resolution digital copies and research copies Liaise with staff across the Library to ensure the timely delivery of internal and external digitisation requests Ensure all access and use requirements have been met prior to supplying copies Process financial transactions and assist clients with copying and digitisation orders. Report or contribute to reports on copying volumes, formats, and revenue. Completion of requests for copies of collection items to be agreed on timelines; orders are processed, monitored, tracked, and delivered in a timely manner Effective working relationships with stakeholders inside and outside the Library Copies provided have been cleared for stated usage through liaison with subject specialists Financial, statistical and other information is provided in a timely manner for processing and reporting.
