Effectively manage reputational risk Deliver marketing and communications functions such as creative concept generation, writing of press releases, media planning, developing and implementing marketing and communications campaigns, events. Work with broader communications and production team to ensure a seamless and well-functioning delivery of communications services across the organisation Contribute to the monitoring and review of communications strategies and related plans Assist with crisis communications as needed Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders Carry out any other relevant duties as directed by the Strategic Communications Manager Key accountability measures (jobholder is successful when) High-quality advice is provided to the Strategic Communications Manager and other internal stakeholders The reputation of the Bay of Plenty Regional Council is protected or enhanced Bay of Plenty Regional Council s Communications Strategy is successfully implemented Work is conducted efficiently and effectively and complies with Bay of Plenty Regional Council policies and brand framework Communications practices and policies reflect current best practice, analysis and research, and support organisational priorities Any additional duties are completed to appropriate standards A
3 2 Relationship management Establish and maintain close working relationships with internal and external contacts including Local Authorities, Iwi and Hapū, ratepayers, media, suppliers, consultants, and contractors. Act as a representative for Council as required at local government conferences and seminars, and other events held within the region 3 Corporate contribution Promote the implementation of the Corporate Culture Statement, Brand Framework and Health and Safety Systems. Recognise individual responsibility for Workplace Health and Safety under the Health and Safety in Employment Act Meet the statutory responsibilities detailed in the Information Management Policy and Procedures standard. Meet Bay of Plenty Regional Council s statutory responsibilities for civil defence and emergency management. Effective, professional relationships and partnerships are developed and maintained with internal and external contacts. Professional image is conveyed in public forums. Tikanga is practised appropriately Corporate responsibilities are undertaken and completed accurately, meeting specified standards and within agreed timeframes. Hazards are identified and all incidents and accidents are reported. Participate in any wellness programmes, such as stress management training and health monitoring. Council records are created and maintained in corporate information systems, meeting specified information management standards. Participate in any civil defence and emergency management training initiatives and assist with any civil defence emergencies, as part of Bay of Plenty Regional Council s responsibilities for civil defence and emergency management. 4 Consultants Best practice public relations guidelines and principles Media Policy Work complexity Most challenging duties typically undertaken, and the frequency of it being performed: Advising on and delivering marketing communications and information to the staff and the community on complex issues, using a strategic approach and problem solving methods Managing reputational risk within a complex environment through both advising and implementation as required Developing and maintaining positive stakeholder relationships, including Iwi/hapū and media, in both every day and pressured situations Providing high-quality and responsive work to tight deadlines Working closely with colleagues in the communications team and across the organisation to ensure well-coordinated communications within and across projects Assisting with crisis communications including holding the role of Public Information Officer in a civil defence emergency. Person specification Minimum academic qualifications and experience required: Essential Desirable (for recruitment purposes only) Bachelor degree (preferred but not limited to Communications, Politics, Law, or Environmental Science) A minimum of seven years post-qualification experience A valid driver s licence required* 1 Knowledge/experience (indicate years of experience required as appropriate) Essential Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Experience with issues management and corporate affairs Project management skills able to manage Desirable (for recruitment purposes only) Knowledge of the Bay of Plenty region Knowledge of the local government environment Understanding of Tikanga and Te Reo 1 Driving record free of driving suspensions or convictions (excluding demerit points and infringement fees).
