YMCA Geelong YMCA Geelong Inc. has a proud history of serving Geelong and district for over 60 years, having been the pioneers in the introduction of many sport and recreational pursuits in the region. YMCA Geelong primarily operates out of owned facilities, the YMCA Newtown Stadium, YMCA Camp Wyuna (Queenscliff), leased facilities at the Geelong Arena in North Geelong, and we manage in partnership recreation facilities with the Golden Plains Shire Council. We also work within the Geelong and district community providing further community service programs and activities. The YMCA is committed to the improvement of the communities in which it works as reflected in our Vision -YMCA makes a difference to people s lives providing healthier, happier, connected communities. We employ 100 people in administration, management and service delivery roles across our operations at Camp Wyuna, Newtown, North Geelong and Bannockburn. YMCA Geelong is a not for profit, community based, mission driven charity that is governed by a voluntary Board of professionals who advocate for a healthier, happier, connect Geelong. Our business operations provide the communities we work in with access to affordable programs that aim to connect people, encourage participation in physical activities that contribute to a healthier, happier holistic person. 2 Facility Description The YMCA and Golden Plains Shire have been in partnership for 3 years. The Bannockburn Recreation Centre which was built in 2011 by the Golden Plains Shire Council and is managed by YMCA Geelong Inc. The facility comprises of two full sized basketball/netball courts. The YMCA also manages the Bannockburn Community Sports Stadium which was established in 1999 and comprises of 1 court. Programs and Services offered at the Bannockburn Basketball Netball Futsal Skills clinics Gymnastics program Birthday Parties Casual hire The Bannockburn community is experiencing rapid growth and it is anticipated the new Bannockburn Recreation Centre will be the first stage of further recreation services to be developed in the precinct. The facility will primarily operate of a late afternoon and evening given the joint use facility with school, the nature of the sports programs, and the target audience they are delivered to. Position Summary As a Duty Manager you will have delegated authority of the Centre Coordinator. As well as identifying potential risk factors and taking steps to reduce those risks, Duty Managers will act as positive role models in an effort to build strong people, strong families and strong communities within the facilities that we manage. Duty Managers will maintain a broad knowledge of centre programs and services whilst at the same time managing the following functions whilst on shift; customer service, safety, staff rosters and breaks, kiosk, operations, cash balancing, customer education and general maintenance and cleaning. Duties & Responsibilities Duty Management Specific Provide exceptional customer service at all times Be professionally presented at all times Handle customer complaints and requests Cash handling Data entry into sports software packages and point of sale software Maintain a working knowledge and understanding of the centre s Emergency Action Plan and the YMCA s Safeguarding Children and Young People policy. Act as chief warden in an emergency situation evacuating the centre if required Perform First Aid to the level at which you are trained and qualified Page 2 of 5
3 Read and keep up to date with area communications, manuals and memos that are relevant to your level of training and responsibilities Perform Cleaning and Maintenance duties as outlined in the Duty Manager Daily Checklist. Perform other duties during shifts in support of management staff Report to relevant area supervisors on any issues that arise on your shift Comply with the YMCAs procedures for safety, training, document control, corrective and preventative action and customer complaints Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and for the health and safety of others. Co-operate with the YMCA with respect to legislative occupational health and safety requirements, the YMCA General Health and Safety Guidelines, and YMCA Management responsibilities for Occupational Health and Safety. Perform other duties as required General Act in a mature, reliable and professional manner towards the centre and members Ensure a clean, neat appearance at all times Wear the YMCA uniform as required Show interest, enthusiasm and initiative Communicate effectively with all staff and members Possess a thorough knowledge of all safety and emergency evacuation procedures Deal with member enquires appropriately, and refer on when required Ensure appropriate qualifications are maintained Compulsory attendance at all meetings and seminars and commitment to an ongoing professional development program Comply with all policies and procedures. Comply with YMCA Geelong s procedures for safety, training, purchasing, document control, internal quality audits, corrective and preventative action, customer complaints and control of non-conforming products and services Community Strengthening Understands the unique needs of families and can respond appropriately. Listens and is objective, responsive, and non-judgemental. Models effective problem solving and conflict negotiation. Exhibits an awareness of commonalities and differences such as gender, race, age, culture, ethnicity, class, religion and disability whilst showing respect to those of different talents, abilities, sexual orientation, and faith. Helps all people negotiate language barriers. Both when working with a team and individually, recognises and acts on need for own support and accepts and delegates responsibility. Maintains high standards of presentation and personal grooming Performs other duties as required Safeguarding Children & Young People Understand and work under the guidelines of the YMCA s Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy and procedures and Code of Conduct. Occupational Health & Safety Take reasonable care for your own health and safety, and for the health and safety of others. Co-operate with the YMCA with respect to legislative occupational health and safety requirements, the YMCA General Health and Safety Guidelines, and YMCA Management Responsibilities for Occupational Health and Safety. Authority / Accountability Within the parameters of this position description and the training you have you are authorised and required to undertake any actions that will ensure that your facility is clean, safe and inviting for all visitors. In addition you will make decisions in the absence of the Centre Coordinator using the YMCA values as a guide. Key Selection Criteria Ability to work independently and multi skill across a range of duties including the direct delivery of stadium sports, customer service, duty management, cleaning, and liaison with user groups Experience and level at which you have a supervised staff. Experience and knowledge of point of sale computer systems and data entry. Experience and knowledge of management of community facilities and or sporting programs. Health and safety knowledge and ability to manage incidents, first aid etc. Safeguarding Children and Young People In addition to meeting your core functions, duties and responsibilities as outlined in the Position Description, you are also required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines in the YMCA Geelong Staff and Volunteer Handbook, as well as comply with all aspects of our Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy and Procedures. You will receive a copy of the Staff and Volunteer Handbook, Policy and Procedures during your induction process. The main responsibilities of your position at YMCA Geelong with regards to Safeguarding Children and Young People are as follows: Promote a welcoming and safe environment for children and young people. Promote the safety and wellbeing of children and young people to whom we provide services. Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe. Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your care. Act as a positive role model for children and young people. Report any suspicious concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management. Maintain valid Working With Children Check (employee) documentation. Undergo National /International Criminal History Checks at the discretion of management, the cost of this is to be paid by the employer. Report to management any criminal charges and convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people. Page 4 of 5

Holding a current Working with Children s Check. (WWCC) Subject to Police Records check before commencement of employment and throughout your employment with the YMCA. Undertaken Induction training session and Safeguarding Children and Young People Online training. Subject to a 24 week probationary period. First Aid and CPR are a requirement of employment. Comply with YMCA Policy and Procedures Disclosure of all pre-existing medical conditions and injuries. Undertaken Induction training session and Safeguarding Children and Young People Online training prior to commencement of first shift. Disclosure of Pre-existing Injuries and Illness. Complete a pre-employment medical screening if required and be Fit for Work. Acknowledges, implements and complies to YMCA Policies and Procedures. Required to work flexible roster as required Maintain qualifications required for the position. Position based at YMCA Bannockburn Recreation Centre, 132 Milton Street Bannockburn Must organise own reliable transport.
