Primary purpose of the role The purpose of the position is to project manage and coordinate a broad range of initiatives and tasks within the Australian Museum Research Institute (AMRI) as directed by the Director of AMRI, Science and Learning. Key accountabilities Increase the recognition and accessibility of the scientific research of AMRI through enhanced scientific outreach and communication, with a focus on digital initiatives eg. AMRI blogs, AMRI social media and the monthly AMRI EDM. Independently manage multiple, science-based projects and programs in parallel eg. Honorary Appointments, Visiting Fellowship program, Animal Ethics Committee, Research Scientist Classification and licenses, to ensure timely and appropriate results. Contribute ideas, information, understanding and interpretation to strategic planning and project initiatives within AMRI Science & Learning Division. Provide a range of effective secretariat and organizational duties as required by the Director, AMRI eg. Coordinating and arranging meetings, electronic diary management and liaison with key contacts. Prepare reports and briefings in relation to the projects undertaken and committees supported. 1

2 Key challenges Stay abreast of developments in relevant fields of science and interpret information to support the strategic goals of the Division. Synthesising and interpreting technical information and communicating this to a general audience is a particular challenge. Clear understanding both of the Director s priorities and the range of strategic, management and other issues facing the AMRI, Science & Learning division. Run concurrent projects and coordinate these into the normal operations of the area often under very tight deadlines with minimal supervision. Key relationships Who Internal Why Director AMRI, Science and Learning The position reports to this person The position will also work closely with key support staff to the Director AMRI, Science and Learning including the business and grants officer, and the AMRI, Science & Learning branch heads. Executive Leadership Team Coordinate meetings, share information and prepare responses and reports Executive Assistants to Directors Allocate day to day tasks and assignments as necessary to support Director AMRI, Science and Learning and other members of the Executive Leadership Team Scientists Ensure AMRI publication data is up to date on the Museum website, and upload new publications by AM staff, Research Associates, Senior Fellows, Honorary Associates, and students to the website (AM pubfinder ) Marketing, Publicity & Public Programs Promoting AMRI blogs and other relevant AMRI news via social media (AMRI Twitter account) and AMRI s monthly EDM for internal and external stakeholders. Identifying suitable news items, assisting with drafting/editing text, selecting/manipulating images and preparing the layout for publication. Working collaboratively with AM s Marketing & Communication Department. Internal Animal Care & Ethics Committee External Liaison and research representation on relevant committees.
