General Summary of Function/Purpose of Position Supervise the day to day operation of the Muskegon Correctional Facility Maintenance Department. Provides direct supervision of maintenance mechanics, building trades, electrician, plumber, as well as skilled, semi-skilled, and unskilled inmate workers inside a correctional facility. ssists in planning, organizing and directing all types of maintenance and construction projects and programs.

The total percentage of all duties performed must equal 100 percent. Duty 1 Plan, organize and direct a variety of physical plant activities, (including a power plant) through Computerized Maintenance Management Systems, crew leaders and other personnel. Supervise all area trades personnel; electricians, plumbers, building trades, maintenance mechanics personnel. Supervise construction, alterations, repairs, and the maintenance of State building and facilities. Supervise the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical, heating, cooling, water, sewage, and related physical plant systems. Determine work priorities and scheduling for all trades personnel. Supervise and instruct inmate crews. Duty 2 Maintain all applicable records, codes, policies, and regulations as they pertain to physical plant functions. Formulates policies, procedures, and guidelines for physical plant employees. Inspects physical plant projects, both in-house and contracted out, for compliance with job specifications, building code, and standards. Inspects facilities, buildings, and grounds for proper maintenance and skills training. Plan, develop, and implement ongoing preventive maintenance and skills training. Compose correspondence, keep records, and prepare reports as they pertain to physical plant functions. Interview, select, and assign staff in a manner assuring equal employment opportunity in hiring and promotions. Duty 3 Maintain the day to day operations of a physical plant facility with a total BTU output of 42,000,000 BTU per hour and 438,768 sq. ft on a 72 acre campus with 1326 prisoners. Requisition materials, supplies, and equipment necessary for daily operations and projects for physical plants. Evaluate physical plant employees work by inspecting completed work and observation of work methods and techniques. Performs timekeeper functions for all physical plant personnel and a back-up timekeeper for the Warehouse. Compile and produce all necessary records for inmate crews. Duty 4 General Summary: Percentage: 10 Miscellaneous duties Submits recommendations for improvements to supervisors on a regular basis. Plan physical plant projects with agency management. Develops and prepares the budget for physical plants. Prepares drawings, specifications, material lists, and prices, time and labor costs for projects and maintenance activities. Requests funding from the proper accounts and costs centers. Performs related work as assigned. Training as required

What is the function of the work area and how does this position fit into that function? Responsible for the daily operation of the Muskegon Correctional Facility Maintenance Department.

4 26. What are the minimum education and experience qualifications needed to perform the essential functions of this position. EDUCTIO: Education typically acquired through completion of high school. EXPERIECE: Physical Plant Supervisor 12 Five years of power plant operator or maintenance mechanic experience, including two years equivalent to a Power Plant Operator 10 or Maintenance Mechanic 10; five years of building trades experience, including two years equivalent to a Building Trades Crew Leader E10; or five years of skilled trades experience, including two years of crew leader experience equivalent to the 10 level in state service. OR Two years of experience as a supervisor of two or more skilled building trades; i.e. building construction, alteration, maintenance, and/or repair, including one year equivalent to a Building Trades Supervisor 11. OR One year of experience equivalent to a Power Plant Supervisor 11 or Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor 11.
