1 JOB DESCRIPTION/ CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION POST DEPARTMENT DURATION SALARY HOURS RESPONSIBLE TO Events and PR Apprentice Marketing 18 months 18,696 per annum 36 hours per week Head of Marketing & Communications THE DEPARTMENT The Marketing department s mission is to facilitate the College s student recruitment process by creating and maintaining a positive image of Richmond upon Thames College within the wider community through effective and proactive marketing communications. It aims to provide quality information and offer the college value for money. The department seeks to market the College and its curriculum offer in an honest, friendly and professional way and assist other departments in achieving their marketing goals. It endeavours to treat everyone who uses its services fairly and equally. JOB PURPOSE To effectively promote the College and its curriculum offer to key stakeholders through a number of communication strategies including events, presentations, printed information, publicity and PR campaigns. To strengthen and develop media relations and to maximise publicity opportunities for the College. To work with key colleagues on planning and promoting the cross College events and activities and developing imaginative and practical communication strategies. To project manage specific tasks as directed by the Head of Marketing & Communications or other senior College personnel. The successful candidate will work towards a Level 4 in Public Relations. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Events To liaise with internal customers to produce content and design presentation slides and materials for use at promotional events ensuring content is current, informative and engaging, relevant to target audience and complies with branding and house style guidelines. To work closely with members of Student Services department to develop promotional items for current and future students/parents e.g. developing key messages/consistent presentations and events to parents/current students. To develop and manage an annual student ambassador programme (that contributes to the student s overall study programme hours) including recruitment and training of students to help promote the College at various events e.g. Open Events. To work with Head of Marketing & Communications on designing and managing an annual programme of promotional / networking / celebration events eg open events, employer engagement events, in order to raise the profile of the college and encourage links with schools (primary and secondary) and other key stakeholders eg parents, employers. To work with the Head of Marketing & Communications to manage a calendar of events involving coordinating staff and students, risk assessment, promotional/communication activities ( campaign/social media etc internally and externally). Gathering and analysing feedback and giving relevant and constructive feedback to internal stakeholders to implement change and improve future events.

2 To develop strategies to increase footfall each year at events and improve the customer experience and increase positive feedback. To liaise with members of the Marketing department and provide relevant information for promotional activity including press releases, social media, website content. To obtain competitive quotes from suppliers for marketing collateral and materials including promotional items and printed materials and produce purchase orders and maintain records to assist the Head of Marketing & Communications in marketing budget monitoring. To contribute to the College s IAG Matrix accreditation and be actively involved in the assessment process. To work as part of the Marketing department to support key events and initiatives and realise recruitment targets. To act as an ambassador of the Marketing department and consistently setting and maintaining high levels of professionalism. To deputise for the Head of Marketing & Communications when required. Press Relations and Media To play an active part in the development and improvement of the College s internal and external communications systems and to suggest and act upon ideas for improving corporate communications generally and to facilitate student recruitment and enrolment. To proactively develop effective working relations with managers and staff across the College and to work with them on publicity/marketing issues, events and campaigns and to advise and assist them with their needs and requirements. To build strong relations with local and national reporters and journalists and to be a key contact for all press enquiries both locally and regionally and act as a referral point within the College. To develop student case studies for publicity and promotional purposes e.g. printed publications, press releases, website, and social media tools. To develop and organise a student alumni programme for publicity purposes e.g. helping at events, case studies. To write engaging press releases and work on long-term campaigns to enhance and promote the College to its key markets and target areas. To research, develop and promote news stories and media releases in support of our activities and corporate strategy and handle day-to-day media enquiries. To research and produce case study stories of individuals/groups of students and to take photos/arrange photo shoots to support media releases and marketing materials. To write clear and simple copy for marketing publications including newsletters, flyers, advertisements, editorials, websites, prospectuses. To assist in the design and production of newsletters, editorials and other marketing materials. To enhance and protect the College s reputation by anticipating issues which could arise in the media, and liaise with internal and external stakeholders to promote the College s work in the region and to contribute to the planning and management of handling the media in a crisis. To work with other members of the Marketing department to ensure that the College website and social media tools are updated frequently eg good news stories and student case studies and details of College events.

3 GENERAL DUTIES To participate fully in Staff Appraisal according to the College requirements and undertake training as required. To keep up-to-date with Quality Improvement initiatives and to be aware of, and meet, service standards for the department. To participate in CPD as required. To propose any ideas that may help to promote and extend the College s reputation and efficient running of the college. To undertake all duties and responsibilities in accordance with college policies inclusive of Equal Opportunities, Data Protection, Child and Vulnerable Adult protection, Quality and Financial regulations. To report any concerns to the appropriate person. To work safely, consider the safety of others and work within the guidelines stated in the college Health and Safety Policy. To be available to assist in enrolment procedures, which may require additional hours including evenings and weekends, for example during the autumn term. To work flexibly, which may include evenings, open days, parents' evenings and occasional weekends. To undertake any other duties commensurate with your level of responsibility as may be required by the Senior Leadership Team or a member of the College Leadership Team, in order to ensure the efficient functioning of the College. The appointment will be subject to suitable references, medical clearance, enhanced disclosure from the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), evidence of eligibility to work in the UK and evidence of qualifications. All of the above checks must have been completed before the start of the employment. Confirmation of appointment is subject to the satisfactory completion of a ten month probationary period.

Experience of producing written copy and presentation materials. Excellent and effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to develop relationships and influence others. Excellent team working skills with a record of working co-operatively to achieve individual and team goals. Excellent IT skills including use of Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and other packages to support efficient communication, recording of information and an innovative approach to presentation and delivery.
