1 JOB DESCRIPTION FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR, SOUTH EAST BRAINWAVE JOB OVERVIEW The fulltime position is office based, working from the Brainwave Centre in Witham, near Chelmsford, Essex. The Centre is located within a short walk from the Witham train station. The role involves some travel within London and the South East. The post reports into the Corporate Fundraising Manager. Since 1982, the national Charity Brainwave has been providing home based therapy Programmes benefiting children living with disabilities to achieve greater independence. Brainwave has three permanent Centres located in Essex, Somerset and Cheshire. To meet the expectations of its clients and growing demand for its services, the Board of Trustees is seeking to increase the revenue associated with the South East of England. The video is narrated by pop singer, Olly Murs. The SE Fundraising Team is comprised of a friendly group of three people in addition to the vacant role: Corporate Fundraising Manager, London Fundraising Coordinator, Community Fundraiser. Brief description of role Undertake research into prospective donors and supporters. This will include investigating company contributors to similar charities. Provide to supporters reports on the progress achieved by the children they have sponsored. Coordinate events to enhance our networking, raise funds and to thank existing supporters. Provide general administration to the SE team. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES : Research 1. Research and develop a diary of significant opportunities (large grants and/or particular interest in children s causes) for which Brainwave would be eligible for support. Opportunities include: o Companies known to support similar causes. o Companies on the Brainwave database requiring updated contact information. o Contacts known to members of the London Fundraising Committee. 2. Prepare information enabling other members of the Team to apply: o Identify the timings/processes required o Confirm address/contact information o Summarise funder requirements o Download application forms to the Brainwave Intranet
2 Donor Stewardship 1. Prepare regular progress reports for our donors (Companies, Individuals and Trusts) regarding the Children whom they have sponsored. Collate information provided by the Therapy Team by referencing the Therapy Database and speaking with the therapists when needed. 2. Provide donor benefits to contributors within the parameters agreed: certificates, donor wall recognition and more. Events Coordination Coordinate events arranged by the South East team and assist with events organised by supporters. For 2013 this includes, but is not limited to, the following proposed activities : 1. Coordinate the annual 5k Walk for Kids taking place in London Bridge during June 2013: o Develop a theme for the treasure hunt or quiz that accompanies the walk. o Confirm the route to be undertaken. o Recruit companies to take part via a mass to the Brainwave database and with the help of the sponsor company, Emprise. o Encourage online fundraising (Justgiving.com, etc.) by those taking part. o Coordinate the registration process. o Coordinate the printing of shirts for the participants. o Arrange the after party. o Other activities as required to ensure a successful event. 2. To support third party fundraising activities. In the past, for example, companies have planned their own cycling challenges. We have offered some support to such activities relating to hiring cycling tour providers, for example, and attending the finish of the event to ensure that they feel appreciated. 3. Plan an annual Santa dash to take place beginning December The Charity undertook such an event during 2011, so we have a well developed template for the event. 4. In the past, we have organised a major annual dinner. Due to the current economy, we are unlikely to undertake this in 2013, but hope to replace it with smaller, simpler event(s). We may consider resurrecting our annual dinner in future when the economy improves. 5. An annual supporter nurturing/thank you event. 6. Logistical support to colleagues with respect to their events/activities (and they will support your events/activities). For example, the Open Day at the SE Centre. Other events may be undertaken during the year as opportunity allows, and the mix and style of events in future years may differ from the above. Administration and other duties 1. To provide a central point of contact for Fundraising activities and events enquiries. 2. To provide Fundraising Inductions for families on the Programme. 3. To undertake minutes for meetings or contact notes as needed.

Enter information, whether research or contact, on the Brainwave database and use it as a tool to run reports coordinating the timing of applications by members of the Team as well as providing other reports as and when needed. 5. To liaise with South West Centre regarding Gift Aid collection and any VAT implications (particularly with Events). 6. To assist the South East Centre as and when required eg covering telephones, assisting in their Open Days run by the Community Fundraiser and Supporter visits as and when required. General Some evening or weekend work will be needed occasionally. Travel to Bridgwater (Somerset) or another venue for national Fundraising meetings will be required a few times a year. In addition, travel to London to visit venues, supporters, suppliers and South East Team Meetings is needed as well as some travel within Essex. 4 PERSON SPECIFICATION FUNDRAISING COORDINATOR, SOUTH EAST JOB RELATED SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE Essential Good organisation skills Good research skills High level of self motivation and ability to work proactively Ability to organise own workload to deadlines Good communication skills, verbal and written Numerate and ability to prepare budgets IT skills to include: confident use of websites, word processing, databases, spread sheets and ability to produce succinct and informative reports Ability to meet deadlines and good time management Good telephone manner Able to lift and manoeuvre light loads, for example when setting up events. Understanding of health and safety issues and risk assessments, and their application to events Desirable Experience of working with volunteers Experience of working in the community Empathy with children with disabilities Understanding of running events Driving licence desirable but not essential EDUCATION/QUALIFICATION Aptitude, personality and relevant experience are of greater significance than academic qualifications However, qualifications relevant to the role would be welcomed OTHER REQUIREMENTS Personal Qualities Work on own initiative and be part of the Fundraising Team sharing best practice and ideas Self motivated, able to press on with work without being prompted Confident and able to relate appropriately and sensitively with people at all levels and from all backgrounds Good listening skills Commitment to Brainwave s values of helping children and families improve their lives Positive and flexible attitude Creative
