1 JOB PROFILE Job Title: Senior Innovation Manager Department Marketing, Fundraising and Communications Location Farringdon Reports to: Head of Innovation Development Grade: 3 Budget responsibility: Line management responsibility: N/A Child Safeguarding Level: Level 2 This post will have direct access to children on a frequent basis (more than two times in any period of 30 days) or intensively (four days or more in one month or overnight), or will have responsibility for the day to day management of those with direct access to children on a frequent basis and is therefore classified as a Level 2 position. A Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced check or equivalent overseas police check will be obtained for employees at this level prior to their Start Date. As the post is covered by the Exceptions Order 1975 to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974, any spent or unspent criminal convictions will be considered when considering suitability for the role. 2 Job Purpose: Save The Children has made dramatic progress in the last ten years our income, levels of supporter, brand and credibility has risen dramatically. Our challenge is how we take this to another level of impact by building greater levels of support and funds so we can play our role in our increasingly ambitious agenda for children in the UK and around the world. The Innovation team has a mandate to identify, establish and lead new ventures across fundraising and brand to underpin our ambition to become a cause of millions. The Senior Innovation Manager is responsible for creating exciting and brilliant income generating propositions. You will own the ideas, drive them forward and improve them using brilliant insight. You will manage a portfolio of projects from initial scoping to prototype, develop briefs in conjunction with core teams across Fundraising as well as in areas new to the organisation. You will recommend go/no go decisions from initial brief to prototype and beyond. You will put the needs of the consumer first by designing true value propositions. You will have experience of gathering and using insight effectively throughout the development of a proposition, service or product and designing deliverable concepts. You have brave entrepreneurial spirit that. You are a creator of new ideas. You will be disruptive you will have a natural entrepreneurial approach which manifests in the way you design and create solutions and in the way you drive to make ideas bigger and more ambitious. You will face outwards building networks across commercial experts, charity innovation and relevant start-ups. You will be a leader in creating new things and casting vision that leads to commercially viable ideas. You will have natural curiosity and apply it relentlessly to create and design new things that deliver the right outcomes. You will be comfortable making decisions and a confident visual communicator who thrives working in an ambiguous environment and constantly seeks evidence to ensure good decision making. You will have an unrivalled passion for innovation and an absolute belief in the values and mission of Save the Children. Key accountabilities: Use and develop consumer insight to develop new products and offers for as-yet untapped audiences and existing segments with significant unmet potential. 2

3 Focus externally for new opportunities, scouting within the charity sector and beyond it to other industries and sectors in the UK and abroad Identify and deliver new opportunities for mass support arising from SCUK s strategic goals Identify opportunities that are already working elsewhere and quickly translate them for SCUK; explore creative partnering opportunities with other organisations; work with existing and new suppliers and agencies to develop significant opportunities, etc. Work with SCUK Directors and their teams in Fundraising and across the organisation, to develop focused exploration briefs bringing exciting challenge to the status quo Develop early stage concepts: Use appropriate insight techniques to support the development of supporter centric concepts. Explain complex ideas simply and creatively, bringing key stakeholders with you on the journey of idea creation. Draft robust early stage business cases to prove the business model and generate support for internal investment. Deliver prototypes and tests: Plan and implement prototypes of investable propositions to quickly prove their feasibility and efficacy in the market. Revise and iterate propositions with insight: be lean: create, test, learn, iterate. Work with Project Managers and core business teams to support the launch and rapid scaling of successful product trials, holding the ownership of the new ideas, products and services. Consumer empathy - you need to understand and promote the needs of consumers and our supporters, to bring them into every conversation Essential Technical Skills: Experience of working in an Innovation or NPD team in the commercial and/or charity sector Demonstrable success of managing the innovation process from brief to launch Knowledge of wide range of consumer insight methodologies and their application insight is our gold Track record of managing complex cross-organisational projects. Personal Skills: Making things happen - the ability to plan and deliver projects within a complex organisation. Relationship-building - the ability to build strong working relationships internally across a complex range of departments and functions to implement change. Negotiation - the ability to negotiate commercially attractive external partnerships. Risk taking - you ll understand what a calculated risk is and have the ability to persuade the fundraising team to take some. Facilitation - you ll be skilled at working with groups to uncover their latent creativity and problem solving ability.
