1 ROLE PROFILE Job Title: Programme Manager Get Started Location: South region Introduction to The Prince s Trust Youth charity The Prince's Trust gives practical and financial support, developing key workplace skills such as confidence and motivation. It works with 13 to 30 year-olds who are unemployed or at risk of unemployment through underachieving in education. The Prince s Trust is an optimistic and ambitious organisation. This positive approach is essential if we are to inspire and motivate the most marginalised and disengaged young to achieve their best in life. Our Values are: Approachable we are open minded and value diversity Non-judgemental we focus on the potential not the past Inspiring we lead by example Empowering we enable positive change Passionate we are absolutely committed to supporting young Context of Work In the UK, currently there are more than 1 million young aged who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs). The Trust works with around 55,000 young across the UK. The Trust supports young through teams of staff, volunteers and delivery partners in three English regions and offices in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Each of the regions and countries has a Director who is supported by Regional or Country Councils, which are made up of non-executive volunteers. Young are supported through a variety of core programmes such as xl, Team, Enterprise, Get into, Get Started and Development Awards, together with a variety of smaller developing programmes and new initiatives as they come on line. The Trust also operates a network of Prince s Trust Centres, which directly deliver the Fairbridge programme. The Get Started programme engages young through fun and exciting activities to develop personal and social skills. Each Get Started course uses theme specific activity delivered by expert partners. Courses are based on practical activities and a final challenge, giving the participants the confidence and motivation to move forwards into volunteering, education, training or employment. Reports to: Head of Programmes Get Started and Fairbridge Responsible for: Programme Executive(s) Get Started
2 Key Relationships: Outreach, Assessment and Outcomes Team Delivery Partner staff Volunteer and Secondment Team Programme Support Team Central Operations Team Fundraising teams Contract Management Team Financial Management Team Other Head Office Functions and Departments as required Accountability: This is a key management role that supports our mission to help disadvantaged young in the UK to change their lives and get into work, education or training. The Prince s Trust Programme Manager will lead the Get Started delivery team, fulfilling The Trust s strategic goals by: Delivering excellence for young Developing a high quality team of staff, volunteers and delivery partners Supporting young to achieve positive outcomes in the best and most effective way Growing The Prince s Trust s reputation within the youth sector Responsibility: Manage the Get Started programme in line with annual KPI s, targets and budgets for the region Support the budgeted number of young through the programmes, helping them to achieve a positive outcome Recruit and manage Delivery Partners to deliver the programme in line with the programme Toolkit and minimum standards Budget: Responsible for managing the Get Started programme budget in the region/country within the financial management guidelines, and for supporting the team to maximise draw down on relevant programme funding contracts. Detailed responsibilities: 1. Ensure delivery of Get Started programmes in accordance with the financial and non-financial targets agreed in the annual budget and to the standards set out in the Programme Toolkit. 2. Support and manage the Get Started programme team to progress young through the programme in line with the budget, achieving a range of targets including the number of young supported and the positive outcomes achieved 3. Manage Delivery Partner relationships to ensure staff are trained, appropriate health and safety checks and contracts are in place and performance is reviewed 4. Ensure effective handovers with the outreach team to ensure young are matched to the right programme within agreed timeframes and experience a smooth transition between teams 5. Ensure good working relationships with the Programme Support team for all administrative support for the Get Started programmes

Develop and implement external funding contracts or initiatives (local and national) to ensure requirements and outputs are achieved 8. Ensure accurate and up-to-date records, paper and electronic, as required by The Trust or external funding contracts and in line with The Trust s data protection policy 9. Develop and implement action plans to address issues identified in the annual self-assessment and quality assurance processes 10. Management of financial performance within the annual budget and in accordance with the standards set out by the Finance department 11. Support the Senior Head of Programmes throughout the business planning process and undertake any required monitoring and reporting tasks to inform their view of financial or activity numbers. 12. The leadership, recruitment, development, retention and appraisal of staff in accordance with the standards set out in the Human Resources policies and procedures 13. Compliance with The Trust s governance as described in the Governance Manual ( The Handbook ) 14. Ensure compliance with The Trust s policies for working with young, Recruiting Safely, Safeguarding and Health and Safety 15. Carry out any other duties as may reasonably be required by The Trust, including deputising as appropriate in areas relevant to own responsibilities Reporting responsibilities: To supply information as required by the Head of Programmes Get Started and Fairbridge, Senior Head of Programmes Education, Training and Development and the Senior Head of Outreach, Assessment and Outcomes, Contract Management Team and Central Operations Team PERSON SPECIFICATION The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate that they understand the challenges that face disadvantaged young in their area. They will also have an enthusiasm and passion for the work of The Prince s Trust and a conviction to deliver high positive outcomes for the young. They should be able to demonstrate that they can deliver results through both direct and non direct reporting teams.
4 Criteria Essential Desirable Skills and Knowledge: Experience: Strong understanding of the challenges young within The Trust s target groups face Knowledge of local provision for disadvantaged young Knowledge of how to monitor and manage budgets, operating within agreed limits Excellent planning and organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to work with a wide range of external and internal customers Ability to work both independently and as part of a team Ability to work on own initiative to find creative solutions to problems Strong awareness and understanding of equal opportunities and the ability to translate these into effective action Experience of working directly with young from The Trust s target groups Experience of developing and delivering engagement programmes for young Experience of using , internet, word-processing and spreadsheet packages, accurately and with good attention to detail Knowledge of Health and Safety practices and processes Knowledge of relevant, local community networks Knowledge of the benefits system and how it impacts young Experience of working within a target driven environment Experience of managing and developing a high quality team of staff, volunteers and delivery partners Competencies and Behaviours: Approachable open minded and value diversity Non-judgemental focus on the potential not the past Inspiring lead by example Empowering enable positive change Passionate absolutely committed to supporting young Disposition: Satisfactory DBS check Ability to travel across the region Ability to attend meetings/courses throughout the UK with occasional overnight stays Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends as required
