2 DOUBLE OCTOMILL BOOST YOUR PRODU TWO SIZES Are now available to meet a wide variety of face milling challenges. The Double Octo -05 is the smaller version with a maximum depth of cut capability of (3mm). Designed for smaller machines or components where lower stock removal is needed. The Double Octo -09 is the cutter choice for medium and large machines or where heavier depths of cut are needed, up to (6mm). UNIQUE DESIGN INSERT LOCATING EASY INDEXING NUMBERED EDGES SIXTEEN CUTTING EDGES HIGH PERFORMANCE INSERTS SECO CARBIDE Inserts are located in the pocket using two high speed steel pins for excellent precision. Combined with the high speed steel pins, the cutters use a strong center lock screw or the newly designed wedge for easy, precise mounting. All insert edges are numbered Using the same insert edge number in all pockets increase precision and tool life. 16 cutting edges provide the most cutting edges of any indexable carbide insert on the market, reducing inventory levels and cost per edge. Multiple insert geometries are developed to handle roughing or finishing operations. Seco s highly engineered grades, some featuring our Duratomic coating technology, are available no matter what materials you are machining. 2

3 CTIVITY AND CUT YOUR OPERATING COSTS ADDRESSING CUSTOMER NEEDS Double Octomill was designed with persistent customer issues in mind. Producing quality components with reduced lead times in a way that is profitable. The Double Octomill meets those challenges by providing a high precision, highly productive, cost effective face milling cutter. CONTINOUS DEVELOPMENT Seco launched the first version of Double Octomill in In 2010, the design was updated to include the unique features incorporated in the design today. It has proven to be an exceptional tool to reduce manufacturing costs for customers around the world. Now, in 2012, we expand the Double Octomill family to include a range of smaller cutters and inserts with the same unique design, bringing cost saving to customers with smaller machines and lighter depth of cut needs. LESS POWER CONSUMPTION Although the cutting rake geometry is negative in the cutter, the effective cutting rake is positive because all inserts, excluding the MD geometry, have positive cutting rake angles. This reduces horsepower consumption and allows high cutting speeds to be used, thus increasing productivity. The MD geometry is for use in the most demanding applications. For long term use, the depth of cut is (6mm) for the 09 and (3mm) for the 05, but for shorter periods, such as when machining components with irregular surfaces, a larger depth of cut can be chosen. For example, the 09 cutter can take up to (15mm) depth of cut which will consume two cutting edges. POCKETS WITH HIGH SPEED STEEL (HSS) LOCATION PINS The innovative Double Octomill inserts are positioned in the pockets by hardened HSS pins. This makes indexing easy and secure. You simply can t go wrong because the insert is correctly located by the HSS pins. What s more, the 65 HRC pins ensure an extremely long life for the pocket. 3

Duratomic offers a new level of toughness and wear resistance with more versatile grades and a greater flexibility in cutting data. This gives you higher speeds, longer and more predictable tool life, a wider machining window and dramatically increased productivity. 4

5 TERIALS & APPLICATIONS R Numbered cutting edges INDEXING For increased accuracy it is important to always use the same cutting edge number in all pockets. This ensures axial and radial run-out are at their lowest. SIXTEEN CUTTING EDGES PER INSERT Double Octomill has a thick robust direct-pressed insert that ensures high strength and low risk of edge breakage. The ground location grooves make the insert easy to index and allows for highly accurate seating. USE THE SAME TOOL FOR ROUGHING AND FINISHING Our inserts are designed with a built-in wiper flat that allows you to rough and finish at increased feed rates while leaving a very good finish. This will help decrease production time and save money. CLAMPING SYSTEM Both Double Octomill insert locking solutions, center locking screw or wedge mount, give you easy handling and maximum security during the cutting process. THREE DIFFERENT PITCHES Tools in the Double Octomill range are divided into three different pitches which allow you to fine tune the needs of your application with your machine tool. For example, if the machine has high power capability, choose the close pitch cutter. If the machine has limited power capability, choose normal or normal+. COATED CUTTER GIVES LONGER BODY LIFE The Double Octomill s coated, pre-hardened body ensures long tool life. The hard coating (HV 700) protects the tool from wear and prevents chips from welding, providing longer tool life for the cutter body. 5
