3 ABOUT THE HANOVER SCHOOL OF MEDICINE The Hanover School of Medicine (MHH) covers an area of over 400,000 square metres. The central clinic is at the heart of the campus; it is surrounded by the paediatric clinic, the clinic for dentistry and orthodontics, research and training buildings, the library, apartments and sports facilities. The gynaecology centre moved into a new building on the MHH site on 1 June Since 1 January 2006, the department of plastic, hand and reconstructive surgery is also located on the MHH site. The orthopaedic and dermatology departments are located in other hospitals around Hanover. 4 DRIVEN BY RESEARCH: THE INFORMATION PLATFORM Within this environment, pioneering work is also being done on technologies that support medical research; for example, in the segment of "audit-proof patient files". Since 1996, ZIMt (then referred to as "Medizinisches Hochschulzentrum") has consistently driven the expansion of the previous microfiche archive to a digital, comprehensive and always updated information platform for practising doctors, the nursing staff as well as for research and teaching. The digital archive for patient documents of MHH was created under the name ALIDA (German: Arzt- und Leistungsstellen unterstützendes Informationssystem der digitalen Archivierung).

5 COMPETENT MANAGEMENT OF HUGE VOLUMES OF DATA As the functional basis for the data centre's electronic patient file "ALIDA", the Ceyoniq system was implemented at the end of Based on the one-time "Y2K problem" of the legacy system being replaced, 15 million documents had to be migrated in an audit-proof manner within a few months' time. At the same time, the existing screens, procedures and comfort settings had to be replicated on the new platform. 6 REALITY: THE ELECTRONIC PATIENT FILE Over 1,000 regular users from MHH prove that the vision of the electronic patient file has become a reality. RAPIDLY GROWING DATABASE More than 50 million patients' documents and a rapidly growing volume of current lab findings from all departments have turned the once quaint "Central archive for patient files" into a modern information system whose high-performance infrastructure is now also used for filing business-related documents from SAP R/3.

7 MONTHLY USAGE: 1,600 USERS Aside from the scanned documents, the current installation, which is used by approx. 1,600 users each month, contains an interface to the existing SAP R/3, SAP IS-H and i.s.h. med (since 2007) and will include further content (e.g. results, doctor's letters) via COLD processes from various lab and radiology systems. CALMLY FACING NEW CHALLENGES As a new challenge additional SAP areas (among others invoice processing and contract management) and the audit-proof filing of documents from Microsoft SharePoint.
