18 SAS Enterprise BI-Server - Why? Arguments (1): Bad Performance when analysing detailed data from OLAP-MDDB s. Change of user requirements: Static one-click-reports need to be added to a pure OLAP concept with a high analytical approach, to create added value to our BI solution attracting more users. Easily deployable Adhoc-Reporting capabilities needed. Current Front-end development is not standard, not supported by SAS, requires high support from the DWH Team and is hardly extendable. Focus on web standards (JSR-168) allows to integrate BI solution in Hellmann Portal.

19 SAS Enterprise BI-Server - Why? Arguments (2): BI Server allows to integrate both static and dynamic reporting capabilities in one web front-end, using the SAS ID Portal. No consistent metadata concept possible on current platform. Centralisation of all reporting activities on one platform and one tool. Customer access to global logistics information is required (Self- Service Reporting). ETL back-end process with SAS 8 and SAS/WA very time-consuming, intelligent features needed to minimize system downtime for users during loading process.

26 The 24x7 Concept The Issue: Due to global access from users, the DataWarehouse never sleeps.... Downtime due to ETL loading processes needs to be minimized. The Solution: 2 independent data schemes A and B, controlled individually by the MetaData Server, for both OLAP-Server and Stored Processes. Switch from A to B and back is controlled by the update process itself. Planned enhancements: User notification prior switch, to enable them to finish their task before they get disconnected from the active scheme.
