3 Introduction Founded in 2004, Marine Data Solutions is a South African company that assists maritime authorities and associated industries to achieve their desired business objectives through the provision, maintenance and support of world class maritime technology solutions such as: Domain Awareness Training Aids & Simulators Software Solutions Aids to Navigation Management Information Systems Docking Aid Systems Marine Data Solutions is a leader in the African maritime arena with regards to the supply, installation and support of Vessel Traffic Management and Information Systems (VTMIS), Maintenance, Training as well as Automatic Identification Systems (AIS). With more than 65 installations across the African continent and long standing service agreements with major maritime authorities in Southern Africa, the company continues to grow from strength to strength. The head office of Marine Data Solutions is based in Cape Town with regional offices in Durban and Port Elizabeth. Its predecessor, Marine Data Systems, was a subsidiary company of Transnet.

As such, we are a Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) verified company, enjoying status Level 2 Certification. In addition to national compliance, the company also strives to meet international standards and regulations by being an ISO 9001:2008 certified company and member to the Port Management Association of East and Southern Africa (PMAESA) as well as the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities, Industrial Members Committee (IALA IMC). ISO 9001: 2008 forms a part of an internationally recognised quality management system. It sets out the requirements that organizations need to fulfil in order to meet the needs of customers and other stakeholders while meeting statutory and regulatory requirements related to a product or service. ISO 9001: 2008 encourages continuous organizational improvement and is one of the most widely used management tools in the world today. Marine Data Solutions has been ISO compliant since PMAESA is a regional organisation for the ports and maritime sector in Eastern and Southern Africa. It seeks to promote and nurture best practices among member ports by creating an enabling environment for exchange of information and capacity building to contribute to the economic development of the region. IALA brings together representatives of the aids to navigation services of more than 80 member countries for technical coordination, information sharing, and coordination of improvements to visual aids to navigation throughout the world. Marine Data Solutions carries the Vice Presidency of the organisation for the period 2010 till 2014.

9 Ownership and Management Marine Data Solutions is a private South African company owned by management and Kongsberg Norcontrol IT of Norway. The majority of the company s staff and shareholders come from previously disadvantaged groups. Kongsberg Norcontrol IT, wholly owned by the Kongsberg group of Norway, is the world s leading supplier of Vessel Traffic Management and Information Systems and Automatic Identification System solutions. Kongsberg Norcontrol IT has offered GMDSS systems as part of some of its global projects. The Kongsberg group is in turn a world leader in the supply of maritime domain awareness solutions, which includes Maritime Simulators. Marine Data Solutions forms a part of the Kongsberg Group of companies and represent the commercial interests of Kongsberg Norcontrol IT and Kongsberg in South Africa and the region. 16 Customer References In order to align the management of marine traffic with international best practices, Namport selected MDS to implement their proposed solution consisting of a Vessel Traffic Information Management System with the following components: Radar System NorControl AIS System NorControl CCTV Harbour Watch Radio and Voice Recording Riccohet Traffic Replay Options NorControl The first installation commenced on 15 February To date, the solution has provide to be operationally effective and has also been effective in a number of situations where tracking date was required for incident management. The after sales support provided by MDS has been both professional and timeous, and has demonstrated their advanced technical competency. In a recent case which involved the replacement of the AIS control unit at the Port of Luderitz, MDS timeously arranged for the replacement parts to be sent by courier from the United States and for a Senior Technician to be onsite. As a result, normal service was restored with minimal downtime. I therefore have no reservations in recommending MDS for any industry rewards, or for recommending them as a service provider. - Mr Bisey Uirab ( Chief Executive Officer Namibian Ports Authority) Your team worked tirelessly to ensure that our Operation Centre had the necessary hardware, software and middle-ware installed and tested. This was done without any disruption to our 24/7 Operations. Also, initial training has been conducted to fit in with our operation requirements. In addition, your team worked with our ICT person to ensure there was no problem or connectivity issues with the installation. The team worked well, quietly and efficiently whilst doing the adjustments and alterations to our Centre to ensure installation success without disruption of operations. Also, you and your technical team were always available to assist or answer inquiries about the new installation. When the Centre has Special Maritime Visitors you were always at hand to support us in doing demonstration and answering some of the very technical questions. Also, when your company was awarded a tender to procure, install, test and train personnel on the systems installed in our neighbouring countries this was done within the designated time schedule, at the cost stated and above all also to the Recipients satisfaction. They too were pleased to have dealt with Marine Data Solutions.
