STABLE STRUCTURES was introduced in 2005 to supply top quality Log Cabins, Sheds & Summerhouses from experienced and reliable suppliers, using premium quality sustainable timbers throughout. We work closely with these companies to constantly improve product quality while maintaining both affordability and value for money. Whether you want to entertain friends in a luxury summer house, require a play house for the children, or simply need storage for garden equipment, our buildings offer the perfect garden solution for you! Quality from Start to Finish Finest Craftsmanship Our GARDEN SHEDS and SUMMERHOUSES are made from the finest Redwood Pine which is slow growing and therefore creates a more dense timber. We specialise in the bespoke manufacture of quality garden buildings and all of our buildings are manufactured in a large range of sizes. All our LOG CABINS are made from good quality kiln dried Nordic Spruce which is taken from responsibly managed and sustainable forests. During the long cold winters the trees grow slowly, which makes the timber especially dense and durable. It is our aim to ensure that every stage of your new building is managed as smoothly and efficiently as possible, from concept, through ground preparation to assembly and completion. We offer a full in house fitting service for all our buildings, each of our teams are fully trained to ensure your building will be installed to the highest possible standard. 3 Important points All buildings are fully guaranteed to be free from defects and faulty installation for a period of 12 months. Timber is a natural product subject to naturally occurring changes i.e colour, splits and shrinkage. We cannot accept responsibility for these natural changes. Please allow as much room as possible around the building for our fitters to work during installation, a minimum of 50cm. Please make sure you have clear, uninterrupted access as our installers will need to carry building sections from their vehicle to the base. There should be no height restrictions or sharp corners. Our installers can t carry sections over high walls or over garages, if any buildings need to fit through a house then they will need to be made in smaller sections. Please let us know in advance of any difficulties. Your log cabin will need to be treated in a good quality paint or stain once it has been fitted, especially focusing on the corners. As it is our policy to improve products, we reserve the right to change specifications and prices from time to time. Concrete Bases Having a level base is the perfect foundation for your timber building, it means that all the panels or logs fit together without a hitch and will settle in unison. We require your concrete base to have a minimum depth of 100mm (4 inches) and suggest the use of a laser level to ensure the concrete is 100% flat and level. The base should be constructed to the exact dimensions of your building footprint so that when rain runs down your building it will be directed away from the bearers. Cabin Timber Bases If you are unable to have a concrete base then we would recommend a timber framed base with concrete posts. Again, this needs to be constructed to the exact dimensions of your building footprint. Shed Timber Bases We can supply a timber framed bearer base for all our panel buildings. This is constructed using a timber frame and legs with additional concrete bricks to ensure the timber is off the ground. 17

18 Delivery & Fitting DELIVERY All our cabin buildings are delivered on our own vehicles, the larger of these will be delivered on our 26 tonne (42 foot) crane lorry. Being such a large vehicle we will need to know if there are any obstructions, overhead cables or tight corners in the road. Please let us know if any of these may be an issue so we can make other arrangements. Our cabin packs as pictured are usually 1.2m wide by the length of the longest part of your purchased cabin e.g. 5 metres, they are delivered front of house so a space of this size will be required. FITTING SERVICE To ensure your cabin is fitted to the highest standard choose our fitting service, we will take care of transporting the building to the desired location, install a damp proof course, constructing the building, sealing the building, adjust doors and windows and leaving your site free of all rubbish and packaging. After this we will run through with you how to adjust windows and doors in the future, recommendations on painting and aftercare and can offer advice on other landscaping and fencing needs. 19 Roof Coverings & Insulation stablestructures.co.uk ROOF COVERINGS On our Apex log cabins we use hexagonal felt shingles, these are self-adhesive, strong and durable. They are applied in 900mm strips and fastened in place with heavy duty staples, they are a high end long-lasting product. It creates an attractive honeycomb hexagonal effect, this is then finished with a rectangular ridge tile protecting the ridge of your building. They have a desired lifespan of 20 years. On our pent roof log cabins we use an EPDM rubber roofing system. This is a high density rubber membrane that is glued with a specialist glue to the roof boards. It is manufactured in one complete section and therefore has no joins, overlaps or areas where water might get in. It is pinned in place with the facia boards to give a neat, durable and protective roof covering. This has a desired lifespan of 20 years. On all of our panel style sheds and traditional summerhouses we use a polyester based felt, this has a year life expectancy. Upgrading to EPDM is also available. INSULATION Roof Insulation To ensure your cabin is cosy in the winter and cool in the summer you have the option to insulate the roof and floor. The roof is insulated with a 25mm foil backed solid foam board which sits inside a framework of a 25x50mm pressure treated batten. It is then covered by a 12mm ply board. The shingles are then fixed on top of this, this makes the roof a finished thickness of 56mm providing a water tight and thick barrier from the cold and beaming sun. Floor Insulation The floors are insulated with a 25mm foil backed foam board, these are held up against the bottom of the floor boards with a 18x38mm batten. This also creates a void which allows air to circulate keeping the floorboards ventilated and dry, it is then capped either end with a treated board. 19

20 Painting & Aftercare PAINTING & AFTERCARE All our log cabins are built out of kiln-dried, untreated whitewood for you to decorate in accordance with your taste and style. Please ensure you treat your cabin inside and out as soon as it is fitted. To ensure the longevity of your building it is imperative that you treat any bare timber. FOR THE BEST RESULTS we recommend that you remove all doors and windows, including frames and treat them both inside and out, also treat the logs behind them and the ends of the logs. IMPORTANT It is recommended to only remove one window or section at a time if you are unfamiliar with the buildings. Use the paint manufacturers recommended preservative before the quality paint is applied. You can also choose to have your cabin fully immersed in our factory dipped treatment prior to delivery. Once painted a bead of silicone should be applied to the glass at the bottom section of each window and door. A bead of silicone or caulk should also be applied where the timber bearers meet the logs. PAINTING IS INCREDIBLY IMPORTANT. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THESE ARE TIMBER STRUCTURES AND ARE CONSEQUENTLY VULNERABLE TO EXTREME WEATHER CONDITIONS Three coats of a top-quality paint needs to be applied to the exterior, we suggest Sadolin Superdec. Pay extra attention to the corners, joints, knots and log ends. Internally, a good quality wood stain or paint should also be used to seal the timber. 20

21 Finished Examples stablestructures.co.uk COMPLETED INSTALLATIONS Having a hard time deciding on a final colour? Luckily there is a massive variety available. We advise customers to use a high quality exterior wood treatment designed for untreated whitewood. All of the buildings on this page have been painted with Sadolin Superdec. It is a water based, highly durable paint for cladding and exterior joinery. Sadolin Superdec remains flexible and resists cracking, peeling and flaking. Please ask our sales staff for a colour chart and recommended amounts for your building. 21

23 Bespoke Cabins & Sheds From concept to completion Get the perfect building for you... Bespoke Cabins Bespoke cabins are generally where your design flare can come into its own, have extra windows, odd sizes, internal walls or simply a thicker log or smaller size. General rules of bespoke cabins: The minimum wall thickness for a bespoke is 44mm. Lead times vary between weeks. We cannot manufacture any angled bespoke building. The maximum width in one direction is 5.5m in a 44 or 70mm log As an unwritten rule bespoke builds are generally 35% more than an off the shelf version of the same cabin. How do you get a price for a bespoke build? 1. Pop into branch and see one of our knowledgeable staff 2. Give them the specification you require ideally: Width and length Eave height and ridge height Door and window positions The style of building you already like. 3. Once we have this we can plot these measurements into our bespoke calculator to get you an accurate costing. Even if you don t know what you want, speak to one of the team and they can help you get the building that is not only right for the space, but a building right for you. All fixings and roofing material are included. Bases are measured in metric and need to be solid, flat and level. Our team of fitters will be happy to organise the base for you. We can supply a timber bearer base which is put down using a frame and legs to level the area, we use bricks or slabs under every leg to support the bearers. Our installers are experienced which means your building will be fitted to the highest possible standard. Most of our sheds are made to order to meet your requirements. All our sheds are pre-treated in a wood preserving treatment, additional treatment can be purchased in our salesroom to further protect your building. The cladding thickness is either 12mm (ex 16mm) or 16mm (ex 19mm) which means it starts at one size and when it is planed down it gives the finished size. We use a polyester based felt which is anti rip and has a life expectancy of between 10 and 15 years. The area where your shed is going needs to be clear from bushes, tree roots and any other objects that could get in the fitters way.
