3 Welcome Finest craftsmanship Our GARDEN SHEDS and SUMMERHOUSES are made from the finest Redwood Pine which is slow growing and therefore creates a more dense timber. We specialise in the bespoke manufacture of quality garden buildings and all of our buildings are manufactured in a large range of sizes. All our LOG CABINS are made from good quality kiln dried Nordic Spruce which is taken from responsibly managed and sustainable forests. During the long cold winters the trees grow slowly, which makes the timber especially dense and durable. Log cabins are normally supplied in untreated timber, you now have the option of having your cabin dip-treated at the factory prior to dispatch. The cabin is submerged in a tank of wood preservative to ensure protection against blue stain, wood destroying fungi and insect attack. It prepares the timber ready for painting. 15 Bases & Delivery stablestructures.co.uk BASES Why having a level base is so important? Having a level base is the perfect foundation for your cabin. It means that all the logs slot together without a hitch, windows and doors will not catch or snag and all the logs will settle in unison over time. We regret that if our fitters arrive and the base is not to the specification below, we will have to leave site and return when it is acceptable. This will cause delays in the fitting of your building and could incur costs. Bases. What you need to know Bases must have: A tolerance of no more than 5mm Be flat, level and square Have no run-off, unlike a driveway or patio, it should be flat Be the exact size of the cabin DELIVERY All deliveries are made on our own vehicles and are usually off loaded by a HIAB crane, so please let us know if there are any obstacles or overhead cables that might affect this service. If you think access to your property for our larger delivery lorries may be difficult - PLEASE talk to us well in advance. Our Transport Manager can then assess the situation, as a pre-delivery site visit may need to be arranged. 15

16 Fitting & Insulation FITTING SERVICE We provide an excellent cabin fitting service and pride ourselves on the quality of our work and our aftercare services. Your cabin will be installed efficiently by one of our experienced teams to ensure that your new building is finished to the highest standard. INSULATION Roof Insulation To ensure your cabin is cosy in the winter and cool in the summer you have the option to insulate the roof and floor. The roof is insulated with a 25mm foil backed solid foam board which sits inside a framework of a 25x50mm pressure treated batten. It is then covered by a 12mm ply board. The shingles are then fixed on top of this, this makes the roof a finished thickness of 56mm providing a water tight and thick barrier from the cold and beaming sun. Floor Insulation The floors are insulated with a 25mm foil backed foam board, these are held up against the bottom of the floor boards with a 18x38mm batten. This also creates a void which allows air to circulate keeping the floorboards ventilated and dry. it is then capped either end with a 20x70mm treated board. 16

17 Treatment stablestructures.co.uk Factory Dipped Treatment Our cabins usually come in untreated, but we now have the availability of having the cabin dipped in a treatment beforehand. The cabin is submerged in a tank of wood preservative to ensure protection against blue stain, wood destroying fungi and insects and prepares the timber for painting. We suggest the white treatment this gives a very slight white hue to the timber and does not dramatically change the colour of the building, retaining the wood effect. It is also available in a brown & grey treatment. Painting Although we recommend the white dip treatment as it covers every part of the cabin, many customers still prefer to paint the building in a preservative themselves. We would suggest two coats inside and out of a high quality clear wood preserver, it will then soak into the timber protecting it against wood boring insects, wood rotting fungi and blue stain. If the preservative is painted on or you have the pre treatment, in both cases the cabin must have two coats of a good quality external paint. Painting the cabin is incredibly important. All our cabins need to be fully treated with an appropriate good quality water repellent paint or stain. Our recommendation is two coats of Sadolin Superdec. This should be liberally applied with extra focus taken on the knots, joints and corners where the logs are notched into each other. Where possible, door and window frames should be removed so all the log 17

18 Finished Examples Completed Installations Having a hard time deciding on a final colour? Luckily there is a massive variety available. We advise customers to use a high quality exterior wood treatment designed for untreated whitewood. All of the buildings on this page have been painted with Sadolin Superdec. It is a water based, highly durable paint for cladding and exterior joinery. Sadolin Superdec remains flexible and resists cracking, peeling and flaking. Please ask our sales staff for a colour chart and recommended amounts for your building. 18

19 Roof Coverings stablestructures.co.uk Roof Coverings On our Apex log cabins we use hexagonal felt shingles, these are self-adhesive, strong and durable. They are applied in 900mm strips and fastened in place with heavy duty staples, they are a high end long-lasting product. It creates an attractive honeycomb hexagonal effect, this is then finished with a rectangular ridge tile protecting the ridge of your building. They have a desired lifespan of 20 years. On our pent roof log cabins we use an EPDM rubber roofing system. This is a high density rubber membrane that is glued with a specialist glue to the roof boards. It is manufactured in one complete section and therefore has no joins, overlaps or areas where water might get in. It is pinned in place with the facia boards to give a neat, durable and protective roof covering. This has a desired lifespan of 20 years. On all of our panel style sheds and traditional summerhouses we use a polyester based felt, this has a year life expectancy. Bespoke Cabins & Sheds From concept to completion We know that not all buildings fit into the right space, design and format that suits your garden. So why not design the building to fit? Bespoke Sheds All our sheds, except the Colby, can be made bespoke. Whether you need an odd size, non-standard door or window position, security locks, toughened glass or a higher building we can get this done to suit your needs. Generally changing a buildings size will not alter the price dramatically and the charges to other design aspects are relatively quite small. We regret that we cannot do any bespoke buildings with an angled wall. Please talk to one of our sales team if you wish to discuss a bespoke shed. Bespoke Cabins Bespoke cabins are generally where your design flare can come into its own, have extra windows, odd sizes, internal walls, large house style buildings, the possibilities are endless. With all bespoke cabins the minimum wall thickness is 44mm and each building is designed for you. If you come to us with a style, specification or idea that you have in mind we can plot it into our bespoke calculator allowing us to price the building accurately but also make changes so you can see what the building would look like with say an extra window or larger doors. With a bespoke build we generally estimate that a building will be 35% more than a standard building. Again we cannot do an angled building. If you wish to price up a bespoke building in an ideal world we would need your desired; width, depth, wall height, ridge height and style, however our knowledgeable staff can walk you through ideas you might have. 19
