2 CLEAN CAMPUS COMPETITION Schl Reprt Frm: April 2-27, 2018 An invitatin t public and private schls within the City f Riverside t expand a student s envirnmental awareness and teach them t take pride in the appearance f their schl campus. Please prepare (2) identical packets (ne fr each judge) by cmpleting the Schl Reprt Frm fr each team yu wish t participate in. Yu d nt have t cmpete fr every team. KRCB Advisry Bard Members will cntact the teacher/staff advisr at each schl by phne r t schedule a date and a time between April 30 thrugh May 3, 2018 t meet with the student leaders and/r the staff representative. When judges arrive, please have a team f students available t tur and answer questins. 3 Clean Team Instructins: Assemble a team f students fr the Clean Team. This may be any size grup that is realistic and manageable. 1. Divide yur campus int (8) areas: Athletic Field(s) Bike Rack Area Parking Lt(s) Playgrund Hallways & Walkways Lunch Area Trash Bin Area Sidewalk(s) 2. Take side-by-side befre and after phts f the (8) areas listed abve, making sure they are crrectly and clearly labeled. Take any phts that are relative t yur prject. Add these t yur reprt. 3. Keep track f litter and trash cllected during the mnth f April. Use standard 30 galln trash bags. Measure weight ttals with a scale! (A standard 30 galln trash bag weighs apprximately 20 lbs.) *Set a gal t establish an annual schedule t maintain the cleanliness f yur campus thrughut the year. Use this as an pprtunity t make a permanent and lasting difference in the cleanliness f yur schl. Nt required, but highly suggested. 9 Water Cnservatin Team Instructins: KRCB partnered with Riverside Public Utilities t prvide students and their schls the pprtunity t learn mre abut water cnservatin. Thrugh Riverside Public Utilities there are five pprtunities fr schls t evaluate: 1. Identify areas f yur schl where cnserving water is an pprtunity. (Example: the bathrms, garden, classrm sinks, etc.) 2. Make nte f leaky faucets, r faulty tilets. 3. Encurage the students t reprt when they find these ccurrences. 4. Find a way t fix these prblems, r use the wasted water in a creative way. 5. Take phts f any water issues yu may cme acrss. We encurage yu t cnsider them as we wrk tgether t d ur part. 12 Hw Will Judges Evaluate Yu? Each schl will be cntacted in February inviting them t participate in the Clean Campus Cmpetitin. Teachers will then decide if they wish t participate. Each schl will have the entire mnth f April t prduce results. Start planning early s yur schl will have enugh time t develp strng teams. Tw (2) judges will visit yur schl smetime during April 30 th thrugh May 3 rd t tur and evaluate yur effrts.
