2 German-Indonesian Renewable Energy Forum 2018 Decentralized Energy Supply utilizing PV Hybrid and Bioenergy Technology in Indonesia Tuesday, 20 th March 2018 Jakarta Background Supported by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi), EKONID will be organizing a conference addressing the need for alternative energy resources in order to support Indonesia s strong economic growth and enhance the electrification in more remote areas especially. Blessed with abundant solar radiation throughout the year and large amounts of residues from agricultural production, Indonesia holds huge potential for both photovoltaic (PV) and biomass respectively biogas based power production. At the conference, representatives from the German PV and bioenergy sector will be presenting their latest technology solutions for sustainable and efficient electricity production. High profile experts from both countries will share their experience and knowledge on how to advance the application of renewable energy resources for decentralized electricity networks or captive power solutions. The event will form the foundation for future B2B-cooperation, which is expected to make an important contribution to Indonesia s electrification and greenhouse gas emission reduction goals. Electrification levels vary widely throughout the Indonesian archipelago. While Java enjoys more than 90 percent coverage, other more remote regions like Papua are faced with electrification rates of 50 percent and less. Those who can effort it utilize diesel gen-sets. However, maintenance and the purchase of diesel fuel lift electricity prices to uneconomic levels further limiting sustainable economic development outside Indonesia s main islands. According to estimations of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the country would have an off-grid potential of 2.1 GW for PV solutions alone. Through the utilization of the ubiquitous biomass a further not utilized resource could be utilized to address Indonesia s electricity challenges.

3 Objective The aim of the event is to facilitate meetings of Indonesian and German industry experts and to identify potential business cooperation opportunities. In a more detailed fashion the purpose of the event can be expressed as follows: 1. Provide an overview of the future outlook of the market and show possibilities for business cooperation. 2. Presentation of German photovoltaic and bioenergy technologies and fields of application to Indonesian company representatives and government authorities. Activities The conference will be filled with a variety of activities as mentioned in the following paragraphs: 1. Opening and Welcome To inaugurate the event, Mr. Jan Rönnfeld the Managing Director of EKONID, Mr. Hendrik Barkeling, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as a high ranked representative of the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will welcome the participants and deliver their opening remarks. 2. Industry Potential Representatives from the Indonesian public and private sector as well as from PV and bioenergy related organizations will give an overview about expected market developments and provide an outlook to the medium term future in the PV and bioenergy sector. A representative from the Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources will start with providing information on regular framework and government policies. This will be followed by a short account of Germany s renewable energy sector. 3. Presentation Sessions from German company representatives The delegates of the German companies will introduce themselves and their businesses, products and services in a set of short presentations. Session I will focus on PV (hybrid) applications while session II will focus on bioenergy technology for decentralized electrification solutions.
