5 ESDP model for Germany 2050 exemplary results and selected findings Energy Flows in Germany 2050 Biomass origins Electricity High temp. heat Diesel processing & trucks Low temp. heat H2 for chem. processes & cars Selected findings for Germany in 2050 / trends in heat conversion & storage Power-to-heat (P2H) can be remarkably cost efficient way of sector coupling and decarbonization (but regulation needs to be adapted) P2H at CHP sites (district-heating) can reduce variable system costs significantly P2H at CHP sites (district-heating) can reduce curtailment of renewables considerably P2H at CHP sites (district-heating) ideally comprises a heat pump, electrode boilers, and/or a thermal energy storage Trend towards decarbonization is a chance for district heating network operators!
