3 NEDO s Mission and Approach Mission As Japan s largest funding agency promoting research and development as well as the diffusion of energy, environmental, and industrial technologies, NEDO has a crucial mission to carry out. Addressing energy and global environmental challenges Enhancement of industrial competitiveness Approach Based on the goals of outcome oriented and user friendly operation, NEDO, a professional research and development management organization, employs a Plan-Do- See (PDS) approach. 9 Japan Tunisia Joint CSP Project Japan s first national project for overseas concentrating solar power generation It is positioned as part of the Tunisia Solar Plan promoted by the Tunisian government Conceptual image of integrated solar combined cycle ISCC CSP (solar tower type): 5 MW (NEDO portion) Gas combined cycle thermal power plant: 39 MW (Tunisia potion) 9
10 Collaboration: Solar Cooling System (UAE) Absorption Chiller : Absorption cooling equipment produces cooling by using heat energy as an input. Solar cooling technology : Energy from solar thermal collector is utilized for Absorption Chiller. Combined system : Solar cooling system combines energy from solar collector and absorption chiller. 17 Capacity Building Project Program ( ) Objectives - Train trainers who are able to teach relevant technology and policies in their home countries - Develop a series of reference materials that can be used in further training activities in each country Trainee requirements - Government officials and university professors who have influence on policy making processes related to renewable energy in their home countries Schedule - Two-year program consisting of six sessions in Thailand and Japan, and one open session in home countries of trainees 17

27 The PVPS Objectives To stimulate activities that will facilitate a cost reduction of PV power systems applications; To increase the awareness of PV s potential and value and thereby provide advice to decision makers from government, utilities and international organisations To foster the removal of technical and non-technical barriers of PV power systems for the emerging applications in OECD countries; To enhance co-operation with non-oecd countries and address both technical and non-technical issues of PV applications in those countries.
