2 ABOUT THE SME BUSINESS SCHOOL The SME Business School is an innovative enterprise development institute focused on promoting the emergence and growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in Africa. The purpose of the institute on the one hand is to increase the capacity of owners and managers of SMEs to enable them professionalize their businesses and on the other hand to enhance the capacity of staff working within organizations affiliated to SMEs such as financial institutions, private companies, government institutions and development organizations hence enabling them to better work with SMEs. In doing so, the SME Business School hopes to increase the managerial and technical capacity of SMEs and further enable access to more appropriate funding to grow their businesses.

3 ABOUT THE MSME BUSINESS ADVISOR PROGRAM The MSME Business Advisor Program is designed to equip participants with the practical skills and tools required to identify and close the capacity gaps that hinder the growth of SMEs at the leadership, strategic and operational level. The participants are expected to develop the ability to influence and lead a holistic transformation of SME organizations hence enabling enterprises to achieve their growth ambitions.

MSME Relationship Managers and Customer Advisors working in Financial Institutions Government Officials involved in MSME Promotion and Development Private Consultants involved in providing Business Development Support Services to MSMEs NGO Staff and Consultants supporting MSMEs in their Impact Programs Managers and Staff of Accelerators and Incubators involved in supporting the Growth of MSMEs Sales Managers of FMCG and Trading Companies that deal with MSMEs as Distributors and Retailers of their Products

5 THE GOALS OF THE MSME BUSINESS ADVISOR PROGRAM? To qualify existing and potential MSME Manager and Advisors in Financial Institutions, NGOs Staff and Consultants etc to evaluate the eligibility of a given SME client for financial, technical or any other support from the institution. To provide existing and potential MSME Business Advisors with a holistic understanding of a given SME business conditions and its growth potential through the application of a set of tools and a systematic approach to identifying the business system, industry dynamics, competitive environment and the growth potential of the Client. To provide existing and potential MSME Business Advisors with the critical tools to use in providing insights into the personal leadership dimension and leadership culture of a given organization in the evaluation of the SME s growth potential. To provide staff of trading companies dealing with SMEs with skills required to get insights into the state of their MSME partners businesses as well as how to enhance the relationship through value added services.

6 HOW IS THE COURSE DELIVERED: The MSME Business Advisor Program is delivered through: Class flexibility as participants are offered over a total of eight (8) weekend modules i.e. a total of 20 days/160 hours. Classes are held Thursday 8:30 am to Saturday 1:00 pm twice a month The program is anchored on Problem-based Learning (PBL) which is a student-centered hands on approach focused on identifying and solving / finding solutions to practical problems. The MSME Business Advisor participants must successfully: Complete 7 Take-Home Assignments (one for each of the first 7 modules) Pass in the presentation and defense of the final SME growth project (8th and final module), and Ensure at least 80% attendance of class sessions. Participate in the team assignments and presentations The leadership facilitators in the program enable the MSME Business advisor to grow individually and through teams in their personal leadership development program.
