Rockhampton Regional Council The LGMA Management Challenge is an internationally acclaimed professional and team development programme that brings the best out of your present and potential future local government leaders. Now in its 22nd year, the Australasian Management Challenge is without doubt the peak learning experience for Australian local government management teams. Whilst the Australasian Management Challenge is open to all councils across Queensland, LGMA Queensland recognises that there are a number of barriers that restrict smaller rural councils from participating in the event. To address this, LGMA Queensland is pleased to present the Rural Management This Challenge has been specifically designed to allow rural councils to join in the fun and to derive the benefits of the experiential learning and team building activities that are the features of the Challenge. DALBY Western Downs Regional Council A major objective of the Rural Management Challenge is to provide a unique learning experience for officers throughout Queensland. The emphasis is on learning - both individually and as a team - and the Challenge will also extend the networks of those people involved and expand their knowledge of council business across the state.

3 The LGMA Rural Management Challenge is a developmental program that provides real-life problem solving experiences and produces outcomes that translate into relevant, tangible and enduring benefits for your people, your teams and your organisation. The tasks have been developed to suit non-metropolitan councils and smaller teams and allow for a hands on approach to leadership development. 4 ENTRY FEE: The fee for teams to enter a Rural Management Challenge is $1530 per team (inc GST) per regional event. HOW TO ENTER: 1. Register a Team Team registrations need to be lodged by 2 August (North Queensland ) 29 August (Southern Queensland) 27 September (Central Queensland) An important part of the success of the challenge relies on the assistance of volunteer observers/actors. If you have people in your council who are looking to develop additional skills in observing team processes and are willing to travel with your team to the challenge, please include their details on the registration form. LGMA Queensland will then contact them direct to discuss what would be entailed. The attached registration form should be completed and returned to LGMA Queensland and the team s entry will be acknowledged with further instructions. 2. Choose a Team and a Mentor Team members don t have to be senior personnel they can and often do, come from throughout the entire organisation. Historically the teams that have gained the most from the experience are those that are the most diverse in terms of participants area of interest, level and experience. And remember, the team needs a mentor - somebody who can, with material supplied by LGMA Queensland, guide the team through the preparation phase. The mentor could be the CEO, a senior manager or someone who has previously been part of a Challenge team. 3. The Learning Begins Your team mentor will receive a comprehensive Team Kit and your pre-challenge task on: 16 August (North Queensland) 13 September (Southern Queensland) 11 October (Central Queensland) Then the learning can begin! Remember, the prechallenge task gives the team the opportunity to finesse how their team will communicate and work before the big day. A 50% administration fee will be charged on cancellations received between days before the scheduled challenge and no refund will be provided for cancellations received less than 14 days before the scheduled challenge. Cancellations must be received in writing.
