1 LONON SCHOOL OF THOLOGY JOB SCRPTON irector of Finance & dministration Reports to: Line Management Responsibilities: Key relationships: Committees: The Principal Head of Finance, Chief nformation Officer, Facilities Manager, HR dministrator xecutive Team, Board of Governors, Head of Finance, Budget Holders dvisor to the Finance and General Purposes Committee dvisor to the Pensions Trustees Member of the Bursary Committee Member of the xecutive Team Job Summary: The irector of Finance & dministration plays a pivotal role in the xecutive Team as the School s Chief Financial Officer and will provide strategic financial guidance to the Board of Trustees and the xecutive Team, and contribute to the overall School strategy. The F also oversees HR, T, Facilities & Conferences and ccounts. The post holder must hold a chartered accountant qualification and will ideally have experience of Charity Finance and VT. KY RSPONSBLTS The Role of irector of Finance & dministration has three Primary components, currently configured as: Membership of the School s xecutive Team Chief Financial Officer Oversight of ccounts, HR, T & Facilities & Conferences epartments Membership of School xecutive Team The xecutive Team, which meets weekly, is accountable to the Board of Trustees for the effective day-today leadership and management of the School. The xecutive Team comprises the Principal, cademic ean, irector of Finance and dministration, and cademic Secretary and irector of cademic Support. Chief Financial Officer Provide advice to the Principal, xecutive Team and Board of Governors on all financial matters, and to ensure that systems are in place that provide financial compliance and underpin the highest standards of financial probity across the School. n conjunction with the Principal, ensure the financial health of the School by developing, gaining approval for and implementing, a financial strategy which underpins the financial aspects of the School s strategic plan and optimises the School`s use of its assets. ssist leaders and managers of the School in the discharge of their financial responsibilities and in the effective management of resources through the provision of timely and accurate financial information, and through the development of financial capability throughout the School, including management of the devolved budget. Monitor systems and processes to deliver the annual budgeting and financial cycle, ensuring legal compliance and the production of audited nnual Charity ccounts. nsure high standards of financial reporting in order that the Board of Governors and the xecutive Team are fully informed about financial performance. Monitor and evaluate the budgets, financial performance and financial risks and report to the Principal and xecutive Team in this regard.

2 epartment Management Provide effective leadership and management of the ccounts, HR, T and Facilities & Conferences epartments, ensuring that the necessary resource is in place and that staff members are motivated and engaged to deliver high quality customer focused services of the highest standards that support and enable the delivery of the School s priorities. This will include direct line management responsibility for the following roles: Head of Finance Chief nformation Officer Facilities Manager HR dministrator KY TSKS Senior Leadership s a member of the xecutive Team, play a full role in the corporate leadership and management of the School, contributing to the determination of strategic direction. Financial Governance dvise the Principal, xecutive Team and the Board of Trustees on matters related to the financial compliance of the School. evelop and implement systems and controls to ensure the application of the highest standards of financial probity and integrity throughout the School and the application of best practice in financial matters. Be responsible for effective liaison with the School`s auditors and for planning and implementing audit activity to ensure legal compliance and produce Charity ccounts. Financial management and strategy n conjunction with the Principal, prepare and gain approval for a Financial Strategy and implement the financial aspects of the School s strategic plan. Provide financial input to the assessment of programmes and business cases, and to ensure that proposals are fully evaluated and take into account future commitments, i.e. investment appraisal, risk assessment, cash flow and financial forecasts. Be responsible for the efficient and effective conduct of the School s financial management in order to secure proper financial control of the School s business and to maximise the return on its assets. Provide financial advice and timely management information to the Principal and xecutive Team in a customerfocused manner, including production of financial and management accounts and related statutory returns. dvise the xecutive Team and the Board of Trustees in relation to VT registration and the most efficient legal structure for the organisation taking into account business and non-business activities of the School and VT legislation. Monitor and control the School s financial operations including managing the process of capital and revenue budget setting. Manage the School s investments under the direction of the Board of Trustees and the xecutive Team. Be responsible for the formulation and delivery of policy in the areas of borrowing, banking, credit control, insurance and for all aspects of taxation. eliver processes and systems which are robust, effective, and support the delivery of the School s aims and objectives. 2

3 Human Resources Strategy Oversee the School s HR function and processes, including responsibility for managing the personnel function and administration ensuring it meets the needs of the school effectively to achieve excellent standards of service delivery. This will include responsibility for: Salary monitoring, administration and monthly analysis reports Leading and managing the absence management procedures including attendance and sickness process Leading on Supporting Staff CP and performance management processes Leading the administration of Payroll processes Undertaking administrative and financial organisational processes within the school Contribute to the planning, development and monitoring of support services/ financial management / management of support staff, including co-ordination and delegation of relevant activities. Have ownership of the organisational performance appraisal system and through the HR Strategy Group develop the School s approach to staff appraisal, learning and development. Facilities & Conferences Be responsible for providing overall management of the facilities functions, including outsourced contracts ensuring that services and buildings are fit for purpose; this will include responsibility for compliance with Health & Safety legislation nsure that appropriate systems, procedures and expertise are in place for the procurement of goods and services. Provide strategic direction for the growth and development of the School s Conference Business T Strategy n conjunction with the Chief nformation Officer, oversee the development and implementation of the T strategy to put in place T systems that are well integrated, and which meet the needs of the School. Responsibility for the production and upkeep of a Business nterruption Policy and isaster Recovery Policy. Legal Services nsure that comprehensive and professional legal advice is available in the areas of commercial and constitutional law to support the School s aims and objectives. nsure that the school is compliant with GPR. The role holder acts as ata Controller for the School Miscellaneous: Other relevant duties commensurate with the grade of the post as may be assigned by your line manager in agreement with you. 5 Terms of mployment Salary: Hours: Holiday: Probation: Up to 50,000 per annum dependent upon experience 35 hours per week with 1 hour break for lunch. s a member of the xecutive Team the post holder will be expected to work such hours outside these normal hours of employment as are reasonably necessary for the proper performance of your duties, without additional remuneration. This will include working evenings and weekends from time to time. 27 days per calendar year plus the 8 normal bank holidays. These days are paid at the above rate. f the post-holder joins during the holiday year which is 1st January to 31st ecember, holiday entitlement will be pro-rata. Holidays should not normally be taken during academic term. The appointment is subject to a probationary period of one year. Pension: ligible to join contributory School pension scheme after three months Notice: uring the probationary period, one week s notice may be given in writing on either side. fter this period, one months notice is required on either side.
