1 University of Sunderland Role Profile Part 1 Job Title: Reference No. Reports to: Grade: Working Hours: Faculty/Service: Location: Overall Job Purpose: Finance Coordinator (Faculty/Service Accounting and Projects) FIN-COORDINATOR Finance Officer (Faculty/Service Accounting and Projects) D 37 hours a week Finance Edinburgh Building, City Campus To provide Management Accounting Services. The role will assist in activities including the supervision of a small team of staff to process monthly accounting adjustments, support the preparation of management accounts information and submit external claims to funders. Key Tasks and Results: Supervise and co-ordinate the work of a small team within Management Accounts. To ensure accounting transactions are carried out in accordance with accounting standards and legislation and appropriate University policies and procedures. To provide technical and financial advice and guidance to Project Managers and other key staff, tailoring such advice to the audience as required. Liaise with Business Partners and other Services to ensure information is accurately recorded in returns and reports, including external funding claims. Present information using a range of methods including , written reports and face to face meetings. Provide management information by extracting, manipulating and interpreting data from a range sources ensuring accuracy and completeness. Page 1 of 6

2 Interpret data for a range of uses including management accounts reporting and the preparation and submission of funding claims. Assist in the implementation of new or improved financial systems and procedures within the Management Accounts area. Assist in compiling information for University external returns and annual statutory accounts. Use a range of finance software packages (such as Oracle Financials, SITS, CHRIS21, pfact and Qlikview) to produce information as required. Other specific tasks as determined by the Management Accountant/ senior staff within Management Accounts. Special circumstances: The role holder occasionally may be required to attend meetings, conferences or events away from University premises. Evening or weekend work may be required at peak periods during the year. Page 2 of 6

3 University of Sunderland Role Profile Part 2 Part 2A Qualifications, Experience and Expertise: Essential Qualifications and Professional Memberships: Qualified Accounting Technician or equivalent experience Experience: Demonstrable experience of working for / with senior level staff in a customer focused financial management or accounting role. Key Knowledge and Expertise (specific): Demonstrable IT skills including experience of Microsoft office packages Ability to interpret guidelines such as legal contracts with funders and follow procedures with a high level of accuracy Demonstrable ability to prioritise, organise workload and meet accounting deadlines Demonstrable ability to supervise staff. Desirable Key Knowledge and Expertise (specific): CCAB part qualified or studying towards a recognised CCAB professional finance qualification Experience of working with computerised accounting systems Experience of working in a financial role within a Higher Education establishment Experience of the financial management of externally funded activities within a Higher Education establishment Part 2B Key Competencies: Analysis & Research Designs and uses data gathering and analytical methods appropriate for each investigation Recognises and accurately interprets patterns and trends Page 3 of 6
