2 Who is SGS? SGS Economics and Planning is a membergoverned college of professionals that exists to shape policy and investment decisions in favour of sustainable urban and regional development.

SGS s wide ranging experience in economic and social research and analysis provides our clients with a deep understanding of places and their people, and how decisions made now may affect communities in the future. We provide practical advice to clients as we understand the roles of businesses and governments in promoting and facilitating economic development. 7

8 Economic and Social Analysis Brunei Land Optimization Strategy for Industrial and Commercial Growth Brunei's Centre for Strategic and Policy Studies (CSPS) commissioned SGS to prepare a land optimisation strategy for industrial and commercial growth in Brunei Darussalam. The underlying goal is optimising land use to drive economic diversification, using the guiding principles of balanced and sustainable development in Brunei Darussalam. 8

10 Infrastructure and Facilities Planning Planning for and providing a sustainable level of social, community and transport infrastructure is an ongoing challenge for governments and the private sector. SGS's combination of strategic planning, economics and public policy skills ensures we can assist our clients to appropriately assess the merits of such investments in meeting the needs and opportunities for communities, whilst also identifying optimal funding and delivery mechanisms. 10

Numerous case studies and detailed market research was pursued in order to estimate community willingness to pay for library services. This was contrasted against provisioning costs to estimate net value. 11

12 Infrastructure and Facilities Planning Melbourne Airport Masterplan Economic and Social Impact Assessment SGS was commissioned by Melbourne Airport to analyse the social and economic impacts arising from current and future proposed activities in the Master Plan. Extensive modelling was undertaken with Monash University as sub-consultants, to describe the direct, catalytic, indirect, induced and wider economic impacts of the airport. 12

SGS specified changes in the planning system which might facilitate rapid adoption of this distributed approach. 15

SGS's combination of project management, land use and transport planning and economics skills ensures we are uniquely equipped to assist our clients in this field. 16

17 Urban and Regional Planning City of Sydney Employment Lands Study SGS was commissioned by the City of Sydney to prepare an employment lands study that would determine the long-term demand for industrial and business zoned land in the strategically located land in the south of the LGA. The project involved: Reviewing major state and local planning documents, reports and data Analysis of the dynamics of local and broader metropolitan employment lands trends Detailed supply and demand analysis and forecasts Preparation of strategies and recommendations to guide employment lands policy and future amendments to the LEP and DCP Recommended changes to zoning and FSRs, reflecting the changing nature of the study area. 17

The project was to assist the state government in planning for all of Melbourne to ensure there is adequate supply, choice and affordability of housing in face of population growth. 18
