2 Projection of Volumes Based on an increase according the GDP*2,5 allready in 2015 one million TEU Domestic cargo will be handled in Cartagena. If the Trans Shipment quantities will grow per year with same figures, the volume for both terminals in Cartagena be around 4,5 million TEU in 2020

3 Measures to cover the projected quantities Under economical and environmental issues the available yard and quay wall must reach the best productivities a) Existing sheds for the handling of conventional cargo will be dismantled to reach a higher throughput per sqm. b)automatic gates will be implemented in the next 12 month to reduce the turnaround times for trucks of about 50 % c)the number of modern Twin-Lift-STS-Cranes will increase to 19 with a productivity target of 35 moves per hour each crane d)rubber Tired Gantries will be electrified and developed to zero-emission RTG

4 Final Layout SPRC Manga e) To cover a capacity of 1,9 Mio TEU, all remaining sheds and offices inside the yard must be dismantled shortly. Part of the business can go to CTC f) The main traffic road should be covered with storage space for empty container g) Implementation of a separate Barge Terminal to handle the internal and intermodal volumes shipped by barge

5 International Comparisation With 12 STS Cranes, CONTECAR will have the highest density of cranes per berth meter. SPRC is close to the Top Terminals world wide The annual throughput per berth meter, TEU, is absolutely the highest figure world wide and can only be reached with the above given crane density

6 International Comparisation Base on working hours per year = 68,5% more than TEU will be handled per crane The handled TEU at SECT are based on 4 high RTG only. If the stowage hight is less, the number of restows are reduced as well.

Out of environmental reasons most of the traffic should be done by Barge. If out of time reasons, truck transport is required, special trucks with capacity of 60 (3 x 20 or 1 x x 20 ) should be used. a

8 Motivation For River Transport 80% of the population of Colombia lives nearby the river. With lower fees, intermodal transport will increase the competitiveness of Colombian products in the international markets. The river will develop the economy of the region and will allow the localization of important companies along its path.

If only 50 % of this can be shipped to Gamarra we will have already today a quantity of nearly TEU up river and TEU down river. Due to the fact that we have to dismantle sheds at SPRC and out of environmental issues Gamarra can be used as ditrubtion centre as well.

12 River Characteristics The river is navigable 500 km all year, with a draught ranging from 8 to 12 ft The River is equipped with a satellite navigational system managed by the Ministry of Transport. Cartagena Bay is connected to the Magdalena River through the Canal del Dique.

16 Optimization of Truck Transport Out of economical and environmental reasons the truck transport from Cartagena i.e. Gamarra to the final destinations and vice versa should be carried out by 60 feet trucks An evaluation if this trucks can be used in Colombia will be finalized before end of this year. 60 feet carrying trucks in use in Germany between Hamburg and Lübeck since more than 15 Years.
