Responsible for carrying out a clean sweep of building grounds at the beginning of each shift. 2. Responsible for patrolling the parking lot, grounds, and administrative buildings throughout the workday. 3. Responsible for completing generalized paperwork for the Police Department. 4. Responsible for making emergency calls to the HISD Police Department when necessary. 5. Responsible for assisting HISD workers who need assistance at the Administrative Building complex. 6. Responsible for working the guard station located at the entrance of the main Administrative building. Product /Workplace Descriptions The work of a Security Guard Administration with Houston Independent School District is performed in a school district involved primarily in the education of school-aged children and students grades Kindergarten through twelfth grade. The specific department in which the duties are performed is the Police Department. The Police Department is responsible for locating one officer in each school throughout the school district. Specifically, the Security Guard Administration can be assigned to various HISD - Security Guard 1 9/26/2009

2 locations throughout the school district, including Administrative Buildings, large maintenance complexes, or off-campus office buildings. The overall generalized essential function for a Security Guard Administration is to ensure the staff at the assigned location are protected and remain safe. The Security Guard is responsible for conducting a clean sweep of the building grounds in the mornings before the workers arrive at the building. The purpose of this sweep is to inspect the grounds for any vandalism, misplaced items, or trespassers. The Security Guard Administration is also responsible for setting up traffic cones that direct traffic entering the complex parking lot. During the morning influx of workers, the Security Guard generally stands out in the parking lot to monitor traffic flow. The worker is also responsible for remaining visible throughout the workday to deter potential vandals/thieves from committing acts of vandalism or burglary on the grounds. The Security Guard must complete several types of paperwork related to other essential functions, including incident reports. The worker also assists HISD workers who work at the assigned complex with cars that will not start, keys locked in cars, and irate parents or guardians. The worker is at times required to work in a guard station or office and check the credentials of individuals who enter the complex. The Security Guard is not responsible for completing heavy lifts or heavy push/pull forces. The worker carries traffic cones that weigh 6 pounds each in the mornings, and if necessary, could carry the cones one at a time. Generally, up to 8 cones are carried at a time, but this is not a requirement. The Security Guard generally follows hands off procedures unless it is absolutely necessary for the worker to assist when breaking up a fight or removing visitors from the scene of an accident or altercation. The heaviest force is the force required to lift a car hood up when jumping off a dead car battery. The work of a Security Guard Administration with Houston Independent School District is performed indoors/outdoors in a school system environment. Temperature and humidity levels are generally ambient indoors because of climate control. The temperature, moisture and humidity levels vary greatly outdoors. The worker must be able to endure all the elements and complete work at any time. The worker is required to wear a uniform and a police dispatch radio in the performance of this work. Tools and equipment used in this Security Guard include, but are not limited to the following: radio, limited use of cars, golf carts, traffic cones, keys, computer, and telephone. The point of origin and/or the destination of the lift are classified in the three body zone ranges. The weight ranges given are the weight of the product to be lifted or lowered and does not include the force to be employed in the lifting process. Frequencies are calculated based upon the number of lifts and lowers, the average time of each lift, and then divided into the total time in the workday. Function Description: The Security Guard is responsible for walking the grounds in the A.M. before HISD workers arrive to inspect for any damage that may be present. The Security Guard generally unlocks doors used by workers. The worker must be attentive to details and make sure all items on the grounds are in the right place and not disturbed. Required to carry radio and keys. Required to open doors. Also required to open gates in the parking lots. The force required to complete these pushes varies dependant upon building, age of doors and other factors but would not generally exceed 25 pounds. Required to open doors. Essential Function 2: Responsible for patrolling the parking lot, grounds, and administrative buildings throughout the workday. Function Description: The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a visual presence on the school grounds throughout the workday. The worker at times uses a patrol car, but generally walks around the school building/campus grounds or stands in high volume areas. Required Physical Demands Standing Walking Sitting Description Also required to stand in the parking lot during morning and afternoon traffic. Standing is required to convey a sense of authoritarian control to the workers and visitors in the building complex. Required to move around the building complex, parking lot, and various buildings throughout the workday. Required when sitting in a patrol car or on a golf cart seat. Also required to walk in parking lots to transverse stairs, curbs that are present. Required to carry dispatch radio when using it for communication. - Neutral Grip The radio is generally carried with a neutral grip. - Lateral Pinch Radio buttons are manipulated using a modified lateral pinch. 9 Essential Function 3: Responsible for completing generalized paperwork for the Police Department. Required Physical Demands Sitting Pushing Pulling Reaching Knees to Shoulder Handling Function Description: The Security Officer is required to complete general paperwork, including incident reports, tracking of trespassers that include general descriptions, reports on suspicious vehicles, reports on non-compliant parents, reports on reckless drivers, and reports on suspicious visitors who try to access complex grounds. This paperwork is completed by generating handwritten notes and also by using the computer. Description Paperwork is generally completed sitting down at a desk or a computer terminal, but could be completed standing. Required to manipulate computer keypad. Required to drag computer mouse. - Pronated Grip Required to grip the computer mouse. Fingering Required to manipulate the computer keypad. - Lateral Pinch Used at times to manipulate paperwork. - Palmar Pinch Used at times to manipulate paperwork. - Tip Pinch Used at times to manipulate paperwork. 10 Essential Function 4: Responsible for making emergency calls to the HISD Police Department when necessary. Required Physical Demands Standing Walking Stair/Ladder Climbing Balancing Lifting Carrying Pushing Handling Function Description: The Security Guard must respond to emergency calls from workers within the assigned building complex. The worker generally follows a hands off policy except in times of extreme situations. The presence of the worker generally helps diffuse dangerous situations. The Security Guard must also make emergency calls to the HISD Police Department in emergency situations for backup units. The actual HISD Patrol Officers who respond to these calls are in charge of arresting subjects and transporting them away from the scene. Description At times, the worker must also run to be able to get to the call site as quickly as possible. Required to lift dispatch radio. Required to carry dispatch radio. 11 Essential Function 5: Responsible for assisting HISD workers who need assistance at the Administrative Building complex. Required Physical Demands Standing Walking Lifting Carrying Stooping Reaching Below Knees Reaching Knees to Shoulder Handling Function Description: The Security Guard is responsible for setting up traffic cones to direct traffic, jumping off dead car batteries, jimmying locked cars when keys are inside, serving as a witness when employees are fired, and responding to calls when irate parents visit HISD workers in the assigned complex. Description Required to lift traffic cones, which weigh 6.5 pounds each. Required to carry traffic cones. Required when placing traffic cones. - Neutral Grip -Supinated Grip -Pronated Grip - Palmar Pinch Required when carrying individual cones. A palmar pinch is used to hold the cone at the point at the top of the cone. Function Description: The Security Officer is required to sit in an office located at the entrance of the main Administrative building, or in a guard shack to check the credentials of all incoming visitors. The Security Officer must have the visitor sign in, take down his or her license plate number and ask what HISD worker the individual is going to visit. Description Generally, the Security Guard is seated at a desk when the worker is inside an office, or seated on a stool when working in a guard shack. Required when working at a guard shack to approach cars entering the complex. Required to manipulate computer keypad. A computer keypad is used to automatically let people (workers) into buildings. The Security Officer must watch computer monitors hooked up to cameras that are located at doors and let people in the doors. Required to drag computer mouse. Required when manually writing information down on visitor logs (name, person visiting, car make/model, license plate number). - Pronated Grip Required to grip the computer mouse.
