Sustainability & Technology ACI-NA Cargo Conference Washington, D.C. May 2, 2011
Benefits of Sustainable Approach Practice Strategies For Airports For Airlines/Cargo Carriers For International Markets
Benefits of Sustainable Approach Reduced Impacts = Reduced Costs Industry Requirements Customer Expectations Benefits of Collaborations: Airports, Airlines, Cargo Carriers and Logistics Tenants Working Together
Collaboration Approach: Have You Identified Common Goals? Are There Duplications of Effort? Do You Employ Carrot or Stick Incentives? Can Profits Be Contagious?
Airport-Airline Collaboration Examples: Delta joined a consortium at DIA to construct solar panel arrays = 2,450,000 kwh/yr, enough to power the majority of fuel farm s needs. Delta, the Port of Portland and Nike partnered to install solar panels to power Nike s retail store at PDX to enable the store to be run entirely by solar power while educating customers about renewable energy.
Airport-Tenant Collaboration Examples: SFO now offers the nation s first Green Rental Car program that rewards customers for renting green alternative-fueled vehicles. Customers who rent hybrid cars at SFO receive a $15 discount at the counter. An estimated 4,000 tons of CO2 emissions per year will be eliminated by this program. These rental car customer incentives are expected to increase hybrid car utilization by greater than 15 percent. / 2011 San Francisco International Airport.
How does this Benefit Apply to Cargo? Are Partnership Examples Inspiring? Are Incentives Created for Logistics Tenants? Do You Attract Better Companies with a Collaborative Approach?
Practice Strategies For Airports Facility Planning for Impact Reduction Trip Consolidation Requirements Energy & Waste Guidance New Technologies
Practice Strategies For Airports Facility Planning for Impact Reduction Joint Manufacturing/Logistic Zones Manufacturing/Logistics Partnerships Manufacturing Adjacent to Access Hubs Source: Shanghai-Hongqiao Airport Urban Land Use, Landrum & Brown 2006

I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Airports Energy & Waste Guidance Tenant Lease Agreements Incentives Utilities Metering Measured Waste Collection Re-use & Recycling Programs
I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Airports New Technology Light Weight Pallets & Containers Cargo Screening Equipment
I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Airports New Technology Light Weight Pallets & Containers mple: AIRDEX ssumed wood pallet to AIRDEX pallet weight differential of 22 lbs. (10 kg) ssumed air freight rate from PVG to LAX to MIA of $4.50 per kg. ssumed Ryder re-used 100% of pallets at HP Miami.
I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Airports New Technology Light Weight Pallets & Containers Month Yearly Average al Pallets Shipped 5,309 63,708 FREIGHT SAVINGS Freight Savings $ 229,880 $ 2,758,560 r Savings Wood Pallet treatments required ISPM-15 Documentation VIRONMENTAL SAVINGS Savings in Pounds Freight 1,011,002 12,132,024 dfills Growth Forest Trees Saved 483 5,796 ets Recovered & Recycled 6,792 *

I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Airports New Technology RAPISCAN - EAGLE CO2 Safely Scan Occupied Passenger Vehicles, Fast Comprehensive Inspection with Quality Dual Energy X-ray Imaging Simple Installation and Relocation for Site Flexibility
I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Airports New Technology RAPISCAN - EAGLE A1000 TSA Approved Air Cargo Screening System Inspect Air Cargo Pallets and Containers Powerful 1 MV X-ray Imaging System Scan with Conveyor System or Tow-thru Dollies
I-NA Cargo: Sustainability & Technology Practice Strategies For Air Carriers Weight Reduction Waste Reduction (materials & recycling) Ground Service Options New Technologies
Practice Strategies Examples: Delta 1972, Delta implemented single - engine taxi procedures to reduce fuel consumption on the ground. Since 1980 s, Delta repositions aircraft with GSE rather than aircraft engines Delta has incorporated more than 600 electric vehicles and ground support equipment into the fleet-all with zero emissions. Delta has replaced its cargo containers with new, lighter models, which will save over 1.3 million gallons of fuel per year
Practice Strategies Examples: Delta 2005, Delta worked with FAA to implement the largest family of area navigation (RNAV) departures and approaches in the country to reduce the distance of flight paths to and from ATL Delta has installed winglets on many of its 737s, 757s, and 767s. Delta expects a 3.5% improvement in fuel efficiency and a 5% improvement in range.
Results for Delta: Fuel Conservation, improved fuel efficiency by 36% since 2000 and 10% since , Delta used 1.8 billion fewer gallons of fuel than in 2000, (=3.3 million passenger cars off of the road for a year) Delta received the highest score of all airlines from Green America for its in-flight recycling program.
How does this Benefit the Airport? Overall Improvements in Air Quality Increased Profitability for Delta Enables Continued Partnership Opportunities High Profile Examples Help Raise the Bar for Other Airport Tenants.
International Markets Options/Issues New Facilities Old Methods Varied Compliance Experience Policy vs Practice Fuel & Energy Conservation vs Clean
