3 Remember LinkedIn in itself is not the solution to personal growth. People need to be well-rounded plan for staying in touch.
4 Utilize the Experience description area Think about this section before you start developing. Do you want to promote your company or do you want to promote yourself? Use the 1000 characters in the description section to tell people why they should hire you or your company or buy your product. Tell a save the day story. Put in a testimonial. Experience is a great place to list wins, different companies you have helped, seminars or workshops you have presented, a mini-shot of your personal website.
5 Juice up your Experience section Experience is not your resume. Make sure the jobs/events you choose to list support each other. Make sure you put all your keywords in the title section. Think outside the box. Consider adding your media channels such as YouTube or Slideshare.
6 Give more than Get LinkedIn is a great place to get information, to get connections, to get clients, to get employees. Follow the golden rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Don t spam. Don t infiltrate boxes with constant sales messages. Don t Stalk. Instead share valuable information via your groups, updates and answers and let clients come to you.

9 LinkedIn DO s Take advantage of Groups interact company to the marketplace in a professional manner Engage frequently and directly. Post and respond to comments. This will help build your company s influence and the targeted communication fosters trust and loyalty Write in the first person this is not your resume Use as many key words as you can Add a video or PowerPoint and remind visitors to click on it
10 LinkedIn don'ts Refrain from using any adventurous overused terms like ninja, guru, maverick or superhero as recruiters might not want to take you away from your crime fighting duties! Always download a profile photo. The worst thing you can do is have no cover photo at all which screams you don t care about your profile and professional appearance. LinkedIn recommends that you write three LinkedIn Recommendations. Job postings on LinkedIn similarly require three recommendations.

12 Suggestions Creating your own group is much better then following another. You ll have control over all the content posted within the discussions and you can be positive the right audience is hearing your message. Become a leader when you lead the group. Consistently provide great content that are relevant to your audience and industry. Cross-promote your LinkedIn group on Facebook. Leverage both networks to cross promote the other!
13 Get Noticed Every time you edit your profile all of your contacts are notified. This can be good or if you do it many times, it s annoying. To do this, go to Settings, and under Privacy Controls, you should be able to see Turn on/off your activity broadcasts.
