4 BUSINESS AND OPEN TECHNOLOGIES CONFERENCE is the reference international event in the south of Europe of the open technologies sector applied to strategic sectors of the economy, which will take place in Bilbao on 21 and 22 November Organized jointly between ESLE, Association of Free Technologies and Open Knowledge Companies of Euskadi, and Deutsche Messe, the European reference entity in the organization of professional events. Both entities bring together their reference events: LibreCon, the event in Spain for open technologies, and CEBIT, the technology fair in Europe, to promote the biggest event in the south of Europe on applied free technologies under the name. This year we hope to bring together more than 1,500 professionals showing the most notable and inspiring projects from international, national and local companies linked to the use of free technologies in different fields: IOT, Intelligent Machines, Future Mobility, Digital Transformation, Cybersecurity, applied to the Industrial sector, Public sector and the Finance sector. 5 PURPOSE OF THE EVENT The event focuses its objectives on 3 core areas: Meeting and reference point in order to find out the latest technologies from the open technologies sector applied to the public, industrial and financial sectors. Facilitate the exchange of global knowledge and experience, fostering business development Promoting and boosting the open culture creating wealth on all the levels which take part in the chain of production 5

6 CONTEXT Open Source is currently growing in all areas of ICT and in multiple sectors, from the financial one to the industrial sectors. Furthermore, OSS solutions are increasingly present in industries rooted in the Basque Country environment like automotive, aeronautical, transport, energy or machine tool. On the international level one cannot conceive an improvement of industrial competitiveness without a significant boost to Open Source and without support from the ICT companies based on Open Source. More widely going beyond the limits of the software industry itself or the hardware industry, the Open Source model also refers to the provisions of goods and services which includes, amongst others, the possibility for the end user to participate in the production and in the solutions. We are developing the Society 5.0, as concept of intelligence everywhere with all of the processes and devices interconnected by Internet of Everything (IoE), a scenery where the open source solutions are called to be essential and enabling. Public Administrations have been the first to focus on open source technologies, seeking to save on the provision of their services for citizens through e-government, and applying a code reuse model as a mechanism to reduce Development costs and time to market. On the one hand, the Financial Sector is in turn undergoing an online revolution in which both the open standards and the Big Data, led by Open Source solutions, are changing the way of working and relating with their clients. On the other hand, it is today the time for the industrial environment, a space that must overcome the challenge of vertical systems, integrate its plant networks with the organization s networks, and open its productive processes to the Internet as a facilitator for the integration of all manufacturing stages. For the company sector in general the free technologies are a profitable alternative which provide an open business opportunity. 6
